Post Posted: Fri Jul 22, 2011 11:52 pm — Post subject: The Decathlon: a MAJOR marker game event proposal

I'd bet that many explorers are dying for new puzzles in URU. I know I am.

Considering the theme of puzzle creation, I'm thinking about creating a month-long competition called the Decathlon, consisting of ten marker games. Each game would be a unique puzzle-- short story scenarios, riddles, code puzzles, scavenger hunts, and mild skydiving challenges would be included.

Here's how the competition would work. At the beginning of the month (probably January), I send you the ten games. Then you have the whole month to beat as many as possible. Work at your own pace, and you don't have to beat every puzzle. Each game ends with two passcodes, one for basic completion, one for bonus mastery. At the end of the month, you send me all the passcodes you've found and receive a score based on how many you get right. Highest scorers win prizes and glory! Team completion is allowed, but be sure to tell me so I can share the rewards appropriately. There may be different divisions for teams and individuals, but enough details for now...

So, what do you all think?

Since this project would require a large effort on my part, I would only continue if the proposal receives overwhelming support, so PLEASE BE SURE TO RESPOND IN THE POLL.

Sounds great to me.
I am not the best of players, but I am willing to give it a try.

Great idea.

I love the idea, with a couple of caveats; I don't want to wait until January for any more of Simon's puzzles, and I agree with Josie that one month wouldn't be enough time for me. Of course, I wouldn't have to do all the challenges... Rock on, Simon, I'm looking forward to whatever you bring to the game board!

Considering the above suggestions: the event is supposed to be a sort of race, but maybe it could be extended to two months depending on the size of the puzzles and whether enough people want more time. Also I could release a preview game or two to keep you busy during the long waiting time.

Well, I'm going to need more than six people playing to make such a large project worth the effort... so unless the poll really starts changing I will probably switch to a smaller project and save this idea for later.

All right, plans for the Decathlon are officially off, because I've thought of something much, much cooler! And it should begin earlier than the Decathlon would have. Let the suspense build... though I might become convinced to provide a few hints along the way... Wink

Kinda belated response, lazy poster is lazy.. Decathlon or not, I'd like to play it as a gaming event. Advertize it a little more, so that a lot or people get to participate, maybe instead of sending it individually to the explorers we could set a release date and meet in the City or a Hood, maybe even combine it with a dancing event, a small feast to make things more fun anyway. What do you think, too silly? Razz

Btw, could it be time for another hint? Rolling Eyes

Hint #2 (dealing with adi's suggestions):

There will be IC meetings (in at least one dedicated hood) advertised on this forum. Chatlogs will be posted so that those who cannot make the meetings can still participate. I fear that combining with other events like dancing might detract from the intended tone too much, but those who attend will be free to entertain themselves as they wish. Smile I will advertise on a new thread when the time comes (my life is busy so I'm not sure when that will be; perhaps near the end of this year).
