I was wondering,
Are the events leading up to Atrus' entrapment in d'ni (or earth as it were) by his sons covered in the book of Atrus?

No, the Book of Atrus begins with a young Atrus living at the cleft, and runs through his imprisonment of Gehn on Riven.

The epilogue of the Book of Atrus contains [spoilers]

his monologue at the beginning of Myst that ties events to Riven.

It also describes a scene where...

Atrus and Catherine (Katran) are looking out over Myst Island admiring their two young sons who are playing with Anna.

Other than that, there is little to no mention of the details of life for Atrus and his family prior to his sons betrayal except for what is told in his journals nor is there much that is ever said in much coherent detail about events that took place while the brothers were on their spree.

Details in Myst are vague as to events that took place during the brother's rampage but some things are elaborated upon in Myst IV. It sure would be interesting to have a more thorough account of Atrus' adventures with his sons on Myst Island as well as more of what the brother's were up to during their spree.

there is also a comic book by Hyperion iirc called the Book of Black Ships that told of Sirrus and Achenar's tenure with the black ship pirates mentioned in Myst. However, though I've never read it (nor do i have any idea where it could be found) I hear it's less than good and it's also not considered Myst cannon.

I'm curious as to why Atrus is doing his work from d'ni. He has the riven book there and propably other linking books as well, if he chooses to do work from there he should have.
"he is preparing" "bring only one page" in Sirrus recording.
Means that Atrus is preparing a Myst linking book to take with him to d'ni.
Is that the general assumtion?
[/spoiler]

yes atrus took a Myst linking book to D'ni with him because whenever you take a linking book to somewhere you need another linking book to get you somewhere else or else you're sorta stuck...

the reason why he was trapped there is because his sons sabotaged his Myst book so that it no longer functioned.

so the only books Atrus had with him in D'ni were his broken Myst linking book and the Riven book, but Atrus couldn't go to Riven for fear of providing Gehn with a way out. if you look at his workspace in D'ni which can also be seen in URU you can tell that it's very improvised. i.e.: he piled rocks to make a desk and a shelf. so he *had* to work from D'ni as there was no where else for him to go.

the particulars of what occurred during Sirrus and Achenar's betrayal are of considerable interest to me as well because it is all so vague with many holes that can only be filled by assumptions at best.

Not to mention that Riven was very unstable. That's why he keeps mentioning that he can't stop his work on Riven. He was repairing the errors his father carelessly put in Riven. If he linked to Riven, the Age would collapse on itself.

As seen at the end of Riven, but also, I'm sure the open Fissure wasn't helping the Age either.
