This is spectacular and just plain awesome ... thanks, gmz1023 ... Very Happy

Please, all interested, read this for an explanation ...

I'm quoting here just the part most correlating with the processes in the D'ni caverns except that these waves
here are electric blue at night and the bioluminescence only shows in a 'different place' in D'ni lol ...

Quote:

Bioluminescent waves, which glow a vivid blue as they crash ashore, have been dazzling nighttime visitors to the beach
(San Diego county) this week. Photographers have been snapping photos of the otherworldly surf as it has increased in
intensity over the last few days.

The electric blue glow is caused by an algae bloom commonly referred to as a “red tide.” The organism, a phytoplankton
called Lingulodinium polyedrum, has bloomed since late August, turning the water a brownish-red color in the daytime,
according to UC San Diego scientists.

The movement of the waves turns the tide a brilliant blue, visible only after night falls.

It’s caused by a chemical reaction on the cellular level, according to Scripps Institution of Oceanography Professor Peter
J. Franks, ... it’s intensely bioluminescent... When jostled, each organism will give off a flash of blue light created by a
chemical reaction within the cell. When billions and billions of cells are jostled -- say, by a breaking wave -- you get a
seriously spectacular flash of light.”

On this Blog post you find how to experience those effects at home by filling up a clear bottle with that water ... Very nice ... Razz

I second the PAR-TAY notion. You know there is no cold of white in the cavern, the party just keeps going on. Sad we have such troubled individuals recalling of the d'ni as reference. I think they had continuos parties in the city squares.

Who doesn't love a good party? This would seem like something our Greyhats could make happen in the Funhouse. Turn the lake blue, mess with the fog lighting, get us some DJs and turn the Funhouse into a techno music injected block party!!

Yeah, the science behind the phenomenon was very interesting and informative [no sarcasm] but it didn't take long for me to turn the discussion from scientific discourse towards music, hallucinogens and mood lighting Razz

no regrets Razz

in all seriousness though, i find it more compelling just how little removed fact can be from fiction. as is often the case with science fiction many ideas in sci fi either exist, will exist or exist within the realm of plausible theory.

it makes fantasy seem more real. that's certainly fun! Very Happy life isn't so mundane after all Cool
