There we Go!

After a delay in the publication the last issue of Go! is out. As we annonced during the Guild Meetings (and we write inside the issue itself) this is the last issue for the Go! Magazine in the way you know it. This issue includes a cover image by Tweek, an article about the Heritage Nights, an article on a Real-World garden age, and more!

Stay tuned for the new Magazine!

The 3rd Issue of Go! can be downloaded here.

P.S.: I've received a ton of delivery failure emails for the Magazine. I'm sorry if you haven't received your copy in your email inbox.

Hi, Leo... Yeah, I'm one of those who didn't get this issue by email today which
will go down in history as being the very first and only time this happened lol ... Razz

No, seriously, eh..., yes, I really didn't get it lol, but I've downloaded the magazine
already in the afternoon and have just finished reading and enjoying it ...

Though I loved the Go!Magazine a lot I understand the reasons for changing its
issuing in format and style and esp. the intended further community involvement ...

'The Cavern Post' is a wonderful name for the newspaper btw ...

This last issue is quite short and different, but it contains as always absolute real
creative, cultural and myst-ical delicacies and highlights and thus remains true to
its style being the National Geographic for the D'niverse as I declared it previously ... Wink

Tweek's end time/new dawning scenario is epic and absolutely breathtaking ...

Musica's Heritage article is great and a well deserved tribute to this huge effort of
preserving MOUL's history and bringing this close to all interested fellow explorers
esp. newly Called directly on the spot resp. in a special hood... I like the idea of an
additional book on our Relto shelf btw ...

Lunanne's research report, her thoughts and observations on Tomahna are astounding
and informative ... This is really a place to live ... in those beautifully arranged spherical
(partial) glass houses/rooms and up in the mountains ... What I esp. loved about Tomahna
were the lovely pots hanging in the kitchen and ... ohhh, no, I won't spoil anything, phew...,
maybe you know what I mean lol ... Yah, Tomahna is very special ... Smile

And you all have to see Greyson's myst-like photos and a 'real' garden age made by David,
just mind-blowing ... I promise, you wanna go there ... Razz

Thanks again, all of the GoM team for the efforts for a great last issue of the Go!Magazine and
I'm looking forward to reading 'The Cavern Post' newspaper fresh from the press delivered to my
inbox while enjoying my morning coffee in the Cavern ... Very Happy

Darn! I had a photo that I was going to submit for one of the mags and I keep on forgetting to do so! I was in a park in the middle of Tokyo, and practically everywhere I went there, had a Myst feel to it. Even had a sort of bridge/boardwalk that was reminiscent of Channelwood.

I wish I could go back.

Maybe next edition I will remember.

Just received a gmx-spam report indicating the Go!Magazine as spam ... Razz

This never happened before, but I've made it clear now that the guildofmessengers.com
is no spam lol ... So, maybe everybody else should have a look into their spam folders ... Very Happy

If you send them in now to go@guildofmessengers.com I could put them in the new magazine, maybe(I wasn't planning on making it as photo rich as Go) Very Happy

The real-world garden age concept is a very cool one. I love the tangible quality that real-world places have.

There's a level of detail and 'messiness' in real-world scenes that I would like to see reflected more convincingly in digital art. The ideal, for me, as far as gaming is concerned, is to have an environment which is as fully immersive as possible.

A real-world interactive space is one way to go about that. Another is to focus on a digital space... but make it as convincingly detailed as a real-world space. A lot of games are getting increasingly close to achieving photorealism.

I have an idea... regarding how to pursue that.

It's a bit crazy but I have the odd feeling that it could actually work.

I love miniatures, I love 3d art... and I love the Myst series and Uru.

My idea is to make an Uru age out of 3d-scanned real-world objects, either full-size objects or realistically detailed scale models.

First key is to use Photofly to scan each object... Photofly is a great choice as it produces good results and it is free to use.

Second key is to generate normal maps from the high-resolution meshes... and then simplify the geometry down to the essential surfaces, while using the normal maps to retain the illusion of high surface detail.

I think I can create a near-photoreal 3d age via this method, one which most Uru players will be able to run at a decent framerate. It'd be a small age but it'd have an enormous degree of visual believability.

It might be an interesting technical showcase.

But that's one of a laundry list of potentially innovative fan-art ideas I'm messing with lately and then filing away for later...

Like my copious Myst-fanfilm notes I keep on my computer... and my designs for a couple of other fan ages.

I've only got a limited amount of time and nearly all of it is poured into art projects that aren't Myst-related.

I'm trying to piece together a viable income. Can't do that with Myst fan art. So the vast majority of my daily effort is focused on stuff that is not Myst-related.

Still, we'll see what I can do with the time I have available.

When I do have a new Myst fan project ready to show, though... I'll be sure to submit a description and some pictures to the Guild of Messengers.
