I was about to post another one of my silly ramblings about looking at the bigger picture and the community blah blah, when Gahlen asked me to check on a known website because he wasn't sure it was properly displayed for him.

Guess what: all the GoG pages are now empty.

Ominous. I thought it was just my browser.

My positive mind wants to believe it is only an unfortunate website bug.....but the probability is not so high.
Of all the things that they could have taken down, they took down the only thing the New Greeters didn't have intention to replace: walktrough, tutorials, guides on the website.
I agree with adi...people should do things for the general picture and the community instead of taking offense. The website material was one of the most valuable content for new explorers and now they just created an arbitrary damage to the community

The only people who can be blamed for this "arbitrary damage to the community" Leo, are the GoG Website staff, no one else can be considered responsible for the blatant immaturity shown here.

There is nothing wrong with the GoG web site, as I have just got off of it. No one took anything down.

I now this is kind of offtopic, but really there are a lot of sites with walkthroughs and guides.

@oldmanjob : for me(and others I guess) the FAQ and Walkthrough section are empty

I just loaded the website in IE (I normally use SeaMonkey) and same problem with the primary website. Perhaps you should clear your browser cache and try again.

I have re checked the site again and sections have been removed, so it is not a browser problem. This whole thing is beginning to be a joke. (as he wipes the mud from his face).

Goodness.. if this is an attempt from the GoG leadership to tell us that we are helpless without them, then they have really shot themselves in the foot.. Sure, having all that information in one place was convenient, but as Luna said, there are plenty of other guides and walkthroughs out there, the new Greeters just need to gather them up in new links on their site. Or write new ones! I'm sure there are more than a few willing explorers out there who would LOVE that challenge!

Shame really.. I never really had anything against the GoG and it's members, but I guess this proves what has been said about their leadership in this thread :/

My, My, aren't we all so quick to caste blame without any evidence to support malicious intent.

The GoG site runs on a private server that is somewhat old and prone to failure. There could be any number of simple reasons the site is missing content. Since the GoG has to pay out of their own pockets for a license for the content management system, it may be that the license has run out and the site cannot "legally" run it. Anyone who uses the site regularly may have noticed that it has gone down two or three times in just the last month due to failures.

Even if the content was deliberately taken (not that I've heard either way), let me respectfully suggest everyone get over it. I would not blame the GoG if they shut the site down permanently since it is so clear that they are no longer wanted.

It appears that the Content Management System database may be down since the site wrapper still works. Maybe the license for the CMS SW ran out.... who knows? The whole site has been up and down like a yoyo (well 2 or 3 times in the last month or so) so maybe the server is dying from old age.

A response to Gahlen's question on the forum.

@ johnsojc : uhm NO , i think the consensus is that everyone wants the GOG to become MORE active , rather than LESS . So what do you mean by unwelcome Question The GOG is more than welcome . But failing to do what they have taken upon themselves to do ( apart from a very few ) it is time for some changes . It is clear for everyone to see that the GOG leadership is incompetent , and should be replaced by greeters who take their ( voluntary ) responsibility serious . Any initiative improving the situation has my blessing . I prefer to believe the GOG-website problem is a fluke , a technical issue at a most unfortunate moment in time . I refuse to believe that anyone who has chosen to become a greeter , to serve the community , would EVER consider to pull the plug like that . Blocking access to material created by other parties without ensuring this material remains availlable elsewhere , would expose the GOG leadership as a bunch of bullies and tyrants in no uncertain way . I asume we will see an apology for the inconvenience , as well as some serious effort to remedy the other problems shortly . ( i hope )

I'm aware the content of the web site is missing. It is not intentional and Tech support has been notified.

You know as an individual, I'm sick and tired of being attacked no matter what I say on this forum. You all claim you want the Greeters more active but the second any of us tries, you attack. I'm sure that's helping to bring new folks to the cavern. I know this is not everyone here but enough of you that it really makes me avoid this forum.

Those of you who feel the Guild of Greeters deserves no respect for current and past services, what have you done to help the community? Remember, we are volunteers only.

Please, let's stay civil and not assume immediately this is done on purpose by the GoG it could very well be a software problem those things happen.

Also let's go back to the topic of the new greeters.
