Thanks Janaba.

Gone forever. What can one say to that?

People were trying to archive the site using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, (The link is http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://uruobsession.com but I don't think this forum likes the asterisk in the link, because it won't turn the url tags into a link), but, unfortunately, I don't see anything more recent than 2009 there now. Not sure what that's about. Maybe the archive has to be processed or something before it becomes available? I'm not sure.

I hope, with everyone else, that the uru obsession team will be able to put up a real archive somewhere though. I'm glad you guys are keeping the domain, and not letting anyone take it over to turn it into a page full of random google ads or something. I like the homepage that's up there now.

And I was able to save all my pms, so I'll have that.

I'm going to go do something else now, try and think of something else. Thanks again to everyone on the uru obsession team and every member of the board. We all had an awesome time. You were all brilliant.

Sigh... 'Outsiders cannot run a forum'.

I'm still sad to see it go. Sad

Yah, well it's not like we didn't see it coming. Still kinda sad to see it go though, obviously. But we had some great time with UO, so no regrets here. Smile

Wow. That's.. a heck of a thing to come back to. Life has been... well, I'm coping but nothing that' worrying enough to be shared. But I finally came back now after.. what was it, june, july last year? Half a year gone.. and first thing checking on UO gives a note that it's closed and my heart dropped. Then I come here to find out, and find half the forums are read-only and apparently things deteriorated further from when I left.. and reading this PDF I find if I'd connected a few days ago to wish everyone a happy upcoming new year.. I wouldn't have missed it.

Well, I'm still around.. with luck I'll check out this place still. The feeling of all this hitting will go away in time.

I only knew of this yesterday because someone posted on my Facebook wall that UO was closing. They meant Ultima Online and it's not closing, it's was this person's account which was expiring or something. Anyway, it was a misunderstanding that led me to investigate and find the closed page.

I guess I also contributed to UO's demise since I rarely posted anymore. I'm sad I didn't get to post in the farewell thread.

Dearest Leonor, please, don't feel sad ... You are definitely as much as anybody else a part
of the Uru/Myst and more so of the UruObsession family ... So many stayed away from the
forums with RL getting in their way etc... /hugs ... Razz

Besides that, I can now declare this thread as a sequel to the 'UO Farewell Thread' and
all credit goes to our Miranda2, who wrote a PM to me, in the afternoon, to ask me, if it was in
any way possible to preserve this thread for the 'UO archives' the way I did it with the UO thread ...

At first I thought it wasn't, at least not the way like on the UO forums, which had those comfortable
save options at the bottom of every page to save the whole thread at once ... But then I thought again,
experimented a bit and there we go ... haha ... Smile

When I got my new computer last year it came without a MS Word program and so I've chosen to try
LibreOffice, which is the awesomeness and absolutely compatible with MS ...

Ok, I've opened the 'Writer' module of LibreOffice and copied here and pasted the content of every page
into one document (on the UO forums I've had the whole thread at once) ... I did this at first, of course,
with every single one as I didn't know, if it would work lol ...

Then, having all contents in one single document, I arranged everything nicely, deleted unnecessary
stuff and then I used the absolute awesome integrated PDF writer of that program which starts to grab
the whole content and not only that, it grabs every single link and every link of every single button and
signature as well as the resp. icons and smilies and creates the same great PDF it also created for the
UO Farewell thread ... Smile

For a freeware program, I think, this is amazing ... I use the free PDF XChange viewer, who reads all
those links, I dunno if others will do, but I think Adobe does ...
However, I now happily provide the link to the folder where you'll find the new PDF file as well as the
one from the UO forums ... Please, follow this link ...

And please, from now on post away all late-comers, all former or still Uru-obsessed, I'll update that
file as you contribute and offer your precious tribute and farewell ... Very Happy

I guess now I get a chance to say a bit of a proper farewell...

I must've come across UO.. oh, wow.. years and years ago. It was back in the Until Uru days, I didn't have a computer or internet fast enough to run Uru when it was in prologue and at the most had played the Myst games and liked them but this Uru thing looked neat but I thought it was singleplayer. When I finally got it it was singleplayer. I never thought much of it.

Then when I found out about UU I joined up. I bounced hoods, but I believe it was SuperGram who told me that there was a forum for this hood I'd seen and visited and such.. UruObsession. So, I went to investigate.

And, well, I guess I found a home. Believe it or not, that was the first forum to get me mostly over my whole internet shyness. I tended to lurk a lot on forums, just reading and rarely if ever making an actual account. That was the one where I managed to get myself to posting and getting to know the people about. That got me hooked in the game, and the community as a whole, and then even further to things like exploring (I always had that curious streak, but enough of UU and then MOUL made that part grow). There's always something to see in everything if you poke a bit and explore it.

So, I suppose what I'm saying is even though we drifted apart over time back and forth.. thank you everyone. I loved you guys like family, even the ones I never got to know that well. Maybe we'll come across each other somewhere on the net, maybe not, but regardless I'll remember the times had, and come away from it a better person for it. Crying or Very sad Wink
