Post Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 2:44 pm — Post subject: Slow Cursor Movement

Hi everyone! First time posting here! Smile

So I just started playing Uru live not too long ago, but I have this problem of extremely slow, jiggery cursor movement. I skimmed through the forum/google for help regarding this problem and couldn't find the topic.. Is there a solution to this? Everything else in-game: graphics, character movement are all smooth. Only problem is the cursor movement. Slow movement of the cursor really makes my game slower somehow.. Oh and I also tried adjusting mouse sensitivity in the game settings and it still doesn't solve the problem..

I'm running Uru via Parallels Desktop Windows 7, if this would help..

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Computer type, name and model, main OS version ?

What is the name and model of your mouse ?

One possibility is that the batteries charge are low or batteries are defective. (if using a wireless mouse)

Another possibility could be that the mouse driver needs to be reinstalled or updated.

Check all connections and/or wires. Thinking about a cat chewing or pulling some wires. Wink

Edited with new info: Mouse settings in windows 7
http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-7/516137-how-change-mouse-settings-windows-7-a.html

Especially section "5". Click Pointer Options tab, You can increase or decrease the pointer speed.
(Also check the enhance pointer precision box below the pointer speed slider)

Depending on your control panel settings, the mouse properties can be found...
Start Menu / Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Mouse (last line)

I'm not using any mouse to play, just the touch pad on my laptop. I tried both and they still give me very slow cursor movement. (This gets really frustrating when I have to do the puzzle in Teledahn with the sun power up thing...) The cursor movement outside the game is working fine, by the way. It's only when I get in-game that the cursor is very slow..

My computer specs:
Macbook Pro 10.7.3
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB

Ah, no worries. I'll try to find a work-around somehow.. In the meantime, I'll just have to endure this slow cursor movement.. not unless there are more puzzles which require fast cursor movement.. Confused

Could this be a Parallels problem? I'm running the game on a MacBook from 2009 with an Nvidia GeForce 9400M (so a couple of series older than yours) under the Cider wrapper and have had no problems like this.

Hm.. maybe.. but hopefully not. I guess I could try out on someone's computer (with bootcamp or something).

Oh and what's Cider Wrapper? Is it something similar to Parallels?

These days, this here: http://transgaming.com/business/cider/. Was how MOUL ran on the Mac in the GameTap era. The old wrapper is still available for download on GT's archive site. It's what most Mac users seem to be using.

Instructions for getting it set up are here: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19182&start=15 (scroll down to rainbow's post for details). There are a couple of minor issues, but on the whole, and as far as actual gameplay is involved, it works pretty well.

Often with online games, in my PC experience, when there is movement lag with a game that is online it's most often related to network connection. Wireless internet connections don't always get great frame rates, especially if you're connection isn't very strong. Some things to test out (mind you I have no iPad experience but if you can try these and see what happens): make a physical connection to your router or modem (if you're not connecting through your cell connection.) If you have usb ports try connecting a usb mouse and see if it runs smoother. I know trying to play video games on my laptop with the mouse pad is horrid.

Outside of that without seeing what's going on or knowing more about the iPad and how you connect I really can't help more. I'm a PC and hardware kind of guy.

I have one PC that behaves like this. The best way I can describe it is that the mouse movement is sluggish. It makes the avvie hard to control, as his movement lags the motion of the mouse movement.

As much experience as I have, I can offer my opinions.

1. The PC has good performance (Win 7, 4 GB RAM, AMD dual core processor), and has no mouse performance issues on any other applications.

2. I have played the game all the way through dozens of times on perhaps 10 different PCs and all operating systems: None have demonstrated this behavior, which is constant and repeatable. It lags on Offline as well as Online URU.

3. So my opinion is that it's related to inferior/incompatible Video Graphics performance... the graphics just can't keep up. It's a Compaq PC with embedded GEforce 6150SE chipset graphics. I have had great success and performance with other (all other) chipset graphics, but this one is laggy.

4. The laggy performance is independant of the resolution setting I use in the game - slow at all settings.

5. I have tried everything to resolve. Driver upgrade, rollback, display freq setting, 32 bit vs 16 bit color, etc., etc.

6. The DirectX is the latest. The network, albeit wireless, is lightning (black "updating" screen takes only seconds to load). All of my other wireless PCs don't have the problem.

7. The mouse is wired optical USB and is hi-res and lightning fast in all other apps.

So, my guess is that I am asking the avvie to turn, but I am seeing it actually turn slightly after-the-fact, making the whole game feel "laggy".

It would be my bet, that if I installed a seperate Video card, the problem would go away... but for now, I have other PCs that work superbly.

Cheers,

Dadguy

I got a new laptop for Christmas (running Windows) and at first was only using the mouse touchpad to navigate my avatar and use for clickables. I don't know that it was really sluggish, but it was definitely not as responsive as i might have liked.

Simple solution that I found? Go buy an old fashioned corded USB mouse at Walmart. Tada! Though of course, i don't know if that will work for a Mac (though I assume it would). Mouse pointer issues gone Very Happy

To all, thanks for your replies!

As I've said in my first post, I've tried both touch pad and simple corded USB mouse and neither of them makes the cursor moves any faster. Sad Also, the graphics in game runs very smoothly as compared to the cursor movement, which is very slow. So my best bet right now is me using Parallels to run Uru live. I will try to find some way to try installing Uru on other computer with bootcamp and see how it goes..

Shorah endpalette96,

I've been running MOUL and now MOULa on a MacBook Pro via a wireless router since back in 2007 or so, using the GameTap install described above by Gahlen and have never had difficulties with sluggishness per se (tho' when I link into a crowded area, I definitely suffer from link-lag like everyone else). When my old MacBook Pro died back in October 2011, I replaced it with a new one and briefly tried to run MOULa via Parallels. This resulted in a spectacular crash, so I simply re-downloaded from GameTap, tweaked files as necessary and am a happy camper running MOULa from my Mac OS (and *not* via Bootcamp or Parallels).

In my own small experience, Parallels has never been particularly good at running graphics/video intensive Windows programs; it has tended to choke pretty quickly when I've had it do anything beyond the more basic stuff (which I believe is because in creating a Parallels VM, you have to allocate a portion of the Mac's memory to it, which means that you can't use more if it's needed). It sounds like your own experience has been much better than mine in using Parallels though. But if you really want to avoid rebooting every time you want to head into the Cavern, I'd second Gahlen's suggestion to download the old GameTap port and run MOULa from your Mac OS. You can download the GameTap version here.

Best of luck!

Shorah! Thanks for your response! I tried downloading the GameTap version you posted, but sadly it crashes immediately.. I can reopen it again, but with no luck, there's no movement in the updater tap, thus not starting the game. Sad Yes, I realize that Parallels is not the best deal for running these games, but sadly this is the only way I could access Windows right now (I might convert back to bootcamp but probably not any time soon..)

So I'm wondering if you weren't running the GameTap version with Parallels or Bootcamp on your Mac, then what OS converter/software are you running it on with no technical problems? Or what adjustments did you do to make it connect?

If you're keen to try out the Cider thing, I'd personally not worry about the GameTap dmg, and … do what Stone says in the next post. Razz

If you really want to use the GameTap file directly, though, you'll need to follow rainbow's instructions for substituting the launcher executable in the post I cited above.
