Post Posted: Fri Mar 16, 2012 7:12 pm — Post subject: Cannot use Linking books on Relto shelf

I'm running the game perfectly fine, except for the minor problem that all the books on my shelf are inaccessible.

I click on the shelf with the cursor and get the view of all my books, and can open any of them. However, when I click in the picture in the book, the book closes and slides back into the shelf.

This is inconvenient as it means I need to complete the main game in one go. If I make even a single mistake and have to go back to my Relto, the only way back into the Age I left is to delete the book and reset my progress there, which also hinders my ability to complete later tasks.

This is also inconvenient as I cannot access Bevin and collect other books.

The error only seems to affect books on my bookshelf, as I can use any other book I've encountered.

If there's any way to fix this I'd appreciate some help. Thank you!

Additionally:
I am running the installed version offered by the site presently.
My OS is Windows 7 (64) on a Laptop, although this has proven to be no problem for me in the past, and this one is of better quality than my old one. I presently have an NVidia GeForce 9100M G graphics card and up-to-date drivers.

I have also tried reinstalling and creating a new explorer.

This sounds similar to the issue reported here: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25536

That does seem to be similar, yes.

On the other hand, I did already give creating a new character a try.

At present, this is a mild annoyance I can get around, more or less, unless I want to complete the pillars (which eventually I will, but for now I can deal). I'll give his fix a shot and see if it helps.

Well, that was unfortunate.

Turns out it solved nothing in my instance. The book still slides right back in the shelf when I hit the picture

Any other advice would be appreciated.

it seems to me that there is a hot spot issue, like the location of your cursor is being miscommunicated. I can't imagine what might cause that, but I would be tempted to have you do a methodical grid search and try click regions all around the screen. Imagine where the linking window would be if the book were in the upper left corner, for example, which would put where you ARE clicking outside the virtual borders of that book. It's a theory, couldn't hurt to try.

This sounds like something has gone awry with your player vault. You should submit a support ticket to Cyan with these details such that someone with a vault manager can look into it.

In case you do not have the link to Cyan's support for a ticket, here it is...
(Login name and new other password necessary)

P.S.
If you are playing in windowed mode have you tried playing in full screen mode ?

For windowed mode I am not an expert but I beleive you have to choose a lower resolution in the game/login screen/graphic settings compared to your "normal" working resolution outside the game.

I have the same problem with my 4th (and last) avatar, that I created yesterday. I managed to get to the Hood and Aegura through links from Gahreesen and Kadish, so now I have a few books on the shelf, but none of them works.
I thought restarting the game / rebooting the computer would help, but it didn't.

At the same time, my other 3 avatars work fine.
(the first one was created in late 2010, the second one in the early 2011, and the third one some 4-5 months ago approx.)

There seems to have been a few people with similar problems over the past few days. Chogon has taken look and thinks that the vault cache has been picking up some corruptions - these are usually corrected by restarting the servers.

So, to try to fix things a bit sooner for you all, Cyan will be doing the server restart a little earlier than normal this time round, on Friday 23rd (rather than waiting until Monday) Smile .

Ok, a couple of things were going on this time with the servers - both things having to do with a large numbers of avatars and their data.

First thing was we ran out of tablespace on the database. This was preventing new avatars from being created and new ages... well, anything new. I created a second file for the tablespace to expand into (the database file was already at the maximum size allowed). So this is fixed.

The second issue had to do with the KI number getting large. The bookshelf was getting the KI number of the person using the Linking book from the bookshelf and seeing if it was the same as the local avatar. Unfortunately, the Linking book passed the KI number in a bucket that was too small which truncated the number when it was large, which sometimes still worked but most of the time did not.
Anyhow, I will be making a couple of python fixes so it won't being trying to pass the KI number using a small bucket and use one that doesn't care about the size. That should hold us for quite a while - until the KI number itself becomes too large.
However, this fix will require a new build and an update - which hopefully can happen on Monday. Then all avatars should be able to use the bookshelf again!

In the meantime, we'll open up logins again. But sorry for the large sized KI avatars, who will be home bound until Monday.

Thanks,
Chogon

That could be a different issue, Charura - If you meant that the same avatar seems to have points values that alternate between two figures then that has ocurred before, a long time back.
