Well, it certainly is easier if you are familiar with the concept of *nix systems. These ARE explained in the chatlogs, and some aren't hard to learn.
But the absolute essential, from my point of view, can be boiled down to this:
- Familiar with the use of your operating system of choice,
- Understand the concept of terminals (you'll be using a lot of these, most likely, for server setup),
- Ability to install an operating system by yourself (don't worry, many guides exist on the Internet),
- Understand how a program is built (source code is compiled, or "built", using a compiler; that's basically it),
- Ability to set up a server (physical computer running the shard). You're on your own for this, but basically you'll need a spare computer, a server OS (such as Ubuntu Linux) and an Internet connection.
Basically, everything can be learnt online. You should just be prepared to run a little technical research if you don't know something. The Q&A will help you with this, but our main focus will be MOSS and CWE, so it's best if you've already made your research before.
If you want to know absolute, absolute essentials, here they are:
- Use mouse.
- Use keyboard.
- Use Windows/Mac/Linux.
I can't teach you that!
