Is there any way to see the pod journey gates without having to sit and wait and hope one appears? Alternatively, is there a way to predict (somewhat accurately) when they will appear next?

Any help appreciated.

A good resource for answers on this forum can be found in the Goodie List.

Your specific request can be satisfied by using this tool. The next portal won't occur for nearly 8 hours from the time of this post.

Another resource can be found on the Guild of Greeters website under FAQs and Walkthroughs.

I'm sure others have their favorite sites and might list the ones I am not familiar with.

This is one of the more complex puzzles in Uru, but rather than giving an out-and-out spoiler to a portal predictor, a full explanation can be found at http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8892

Well, Cal did ask for an out-and-out spoiler.

Even so, using a portal calculator does not necessarily mean you understand what is going on or detract from actually figuring out how the solution was derived. It does simplify determining some of the timing.

Cal did not say whether he wanted a hint, tip or out-and out-spoiler - just for a way of predicting the portal times rather than sitting and waiting for one to appear, and there's no better way than realizing it's a puzzle and solving it (much more fun, too).

shows you appreciate this point and Cal now has the option of either understanding the puzzle or simply looking at the calculator.

I didn't realize there were puzzles associated with the pods. Operating the buttons and switches was relatively obvious. From all I read before following the links earlier in this thread, i didn't see anything that indicated a puzzle--just that the journey gates appeared a odd intervals. The length of these intervals kind of goes hand in hand with the 4-hour pellet burn time in Ercana.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I got one of the journey gates yesterday and plan to get another this afternoon.

There are a number of clues to solving this puzzle that can be found by carefully making note of items found here and there throughout the game. It helps to know D'ni numbers up through 25. Various printed items laying around are helpful. The key to pod timing (the easiest) can be determined by spending some serious time observing events in Payiferen (which made life very difficult since it was the 3rd pod released by the DRC). It took some serious time and effort to figure out how the pods worked. At first, brute force observation was used but eventually the clues were discovered.

There is nothing in Er'cana that relates to the pods.

The only Age I can think of off the top of my head that does not have a puzzle to solve is Jalak. (well, maybe K'veer and Myst as well but I think of them as the end of the Er'cana/Ahnonay puzzles.)

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I was comparing the 4-hour wait for a pellet burn to the wait in the pods that is much longer. Both situations are frustrating delays to the game.

Ah, well, I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to say (not the first time). The pellet ovens in PoTS took only 15 minutes or so IIRC but when MOUL revised the oven code to make the time scale to be 0-5 hours, everyone was a bit unhappy.

Uru online is supposed to happen in real time. For me, this slow pace only worked when there was live (Cyan) content in the Cavern. Without an evolving storyline that runs in real time, the game runs too slow for me. It takes me only 4 or 5 hours for me to make a new character and do most everything. A lot can happen while you are logged out. Fortunately, events in the pods and Er'cana do not require you to be logged on. You do not have to hang about online waiting for things to happen.

That all depends on your attitude. I have spent near on 16 hours on and off in one pod to figure out the planets solar cycle and I enjoyed every minute. Oh the sunsets.....

I hadn't thought of Kveer and Myst in that way before, but that certainly makes sense to me now. Idea
It is all to easy to read someone else's posting and miss the true aim of that post, unintentionally of course. I am sure that most have done it, I know I most certainly have done so from time to time.
The good thing that I see is the interaction between experienced players and players new to the game.
It's good to see newer "explorers" availing themselves of the help and guidance, if asked for, that is available here.

Now, If only the search engine here was a little more user friendly, like it was back in MOUL prime. Wink
That would help a lot too.
And yes, I have read the other posts and replys on this particular subject. IMO, some sites have search engines that are more intuitive, easier to use, return results that are actually relative to a basic, simple search entry. And some sites do not.

That being said, for the whole enchilada that is MOULa, the price is right, just a CavCon donation when appropriate. I for one, am grateful for MOULa being available again and I hope it will be around for a long time to come.
As Martha would say, "It's a good thing."
