I wish grey hats could turn off panic linking in the fun house and the hood of illusions

Let me try to understand something here samd...

Are you talking about the general panic link zone under any age (in this case the Fun House)?

Well.

Maybe that won't satisfied you because I don't know how the code works but I can nevertheless answer something:

an avatar can't fall more than around 310 D'ni Feet. Why around 310? Don't ask me Laughing I only tested it on TOC MOUL. On that MOSS shard, you can use a command named: "/jump". That command allows you to jump a certain number of D'ni feet. I would compare those to US feet at our scale.

In TOC MOUL, on a flat surface, type this:

1st) /jump 311: you will fall back down where you started your jump

2nd) /jump 312: you will fall back down where you started your jump

3rd) /jump 313: you will link to your Relto at exactly 1 D'ni foot from the ground

NOTE: those numbers are approximations, anyway you get the point.

So panic zones under ages could be deleted but the game itself is coded to panic link you out anyway.

I hope it will be satisfying enough Very Happy

EDITED AS PER MY NEW POST (MAY 1ST, 2012) CHANGES ARE IN ITALICS

Sorry I can't be more precise because some ages might have a limit at 314 feet, some at 305. I have a lot of 3XX numbers on my sheet of paper Laughing the best thing is to test them yourself... Wink I didn't write what age had what max falling height.

I just went to TOC 5 mins ago (May 1st) and I can tell that the height in Relto is different from the height in Ae'gura.

But only for the local avatar, as far as I know. So I don't think non-grey hats can have panic linking removed.

would they be able to change the panic link destination, say for instance if you panic link out you end up linking back in to the fun house by the fountain

To my knowledge, that would be even harder to achieve.
However, I know there is a function which is supposed to ban all linking. I haven't tried this one yet (watch out for Magnialio in the Fun House tonight, folks!) but it might also ban panic-linking. However, no other forms of linking would work.

EDIT: Looking at the source code, it looks like with a bit of tweaking, an avatar COULD be set to having panic linking disabled. I still don't know if this will work on regular clients though.

Panic linking can happen in two ways: you fell for too long (think skydiving) or you hit a panic link region (think Gira lava). You're not going to disable the former, but the latter can be disabled by moving the regions or disabling their physics.

I talked to a GH today and he told me that the normal external client (the one provided by Cyan) wouldn't respond to a command let say: "****.dontpanic" that we can use on an internal built even if it was pushed onto explorers using the normal external client.

and what Adams said for the "skydiving" panic link is exactly what I explained in my first post in my own terms. Cyan did that to avoid people to fall for eternity below an age.

-------

Maybe if you could built a special age for the Fun House with a rebounce effect in it that would save everyone falling off. I know it's going a bit too far and I didn't see any "Fan Age" yet on the Cyan's shard so would they allowed that kind of specific age on their server?

You think they would let the GHs play around on their servers?

The only solution I can see is to have the Gray Hats warp everyone before the point where they will panic link.

theorically it's a possibility but pratically it wouldn't work because every explorer can be at different height. They (the grey hats) would have to know where everyone is and when they should by game design panic link out and be sent instead on the linking zone.

I would go with my "rebounce" effect. In pratical terms, they would built an age looking like a Neighborhood but with a warp zone underneath it (let's say at 1,000 feet underground to allow some high up in the air lovers being taken into account without linking out). That warp zone would automatically transfer everyone in a little subworld (so tiny & so briefly) that nobody would notice it. Then everyone would be transfer by warping from there automatically back on the linking spot.

It's a concept. Very Happy

However, since Relto doesn't actually have a "ground", 0 feet is probably where the 3d model ends or something.

oh sorry samd...

a d'ni foot would be a foot to an avatar what a US foot would be to a human Smile

I sent you something in PM that will make you understand a little bit more...

EDIT:

@ Everyone...

It's not really the best thing to do but anyway Laughing

I take a lot of notes and somehow?!?! I got mixed up and put numbers that can't be tested. (/me not really surprised...with all the notes I have here & there, I might have given you a secret code to unlock a fan age inadvertently or the number of chocolate chips needed to make chocolate chips muffins Laughing Wink )

So I'm going to edit the post where I'm telling the heights so you can test them
