Here's a curious dilemma. Since I'm running in Linux, I found that I had problems with sounds being wonky, and one solution was to run the program in Windows and then copy the streamingCache folder back to Linux. Imagine my surprise when I started Windows XP (SP3) on my machine and MO:UL won't start! It loads correctly to the point where I select my avatar, but when I click "Enter URU" it displays "Preparing to Link" and hangs there. The program reports as running in my Task Manager, and the machine isn't locked in any way (in fact, the flyovers in the avatar selection window still react to the mouse), but the program never proceeds from that point and I have to kill it in Task Manager to close it. In Linux I'm able to log in normally, so I know it's not account or avatar related. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the program, and URU:CC ran flawlessly on my Windows partition before. Any ideas?

I've returned to the cavern after a long hiatus. Well, okay, I'm trying to return. I'm still having the exact same problem listed above, and still can't link in. To add a bit of additional information that didn't exist before, after a three minute wait at "Preparing to link..." the program now reports, "There has been a network error. Please try again. If the problem persists, please contact support." Clicking OK gives a follow-up error stating, "UNTRANSLATED:SetActivePlayer failed: no response from server." Clicking OK on that error causes the client to quit.

I've checked everything I can think of with no luck. I have no firewall blocking access and my network connection works for everything else. The problem I have this time is that I've long since removed WINE from my Linux configuration, so I can no longer use Linux to access the cavern. Any ideas or suggestions I might try?

You could take a look at this thread: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=340738#340738

There seems to be two options suggested there: a) See if you can find newer drivers for the network adapter and b) if the motherboard is using a nVidia chipset, look at its network adapter settings and try disabling checksum offloading.
