In this special version of What Would Atrus Do?, you will be answering the given scenario in the manner you believe best fits the situation. The best scenarios will be chosen and announced at the end of ADBMM. The contest ends on Thursday, 12:00 AM PDT. Now, without further ado...

Atrus has found himself in a pickle. Well... sorta. The age of Asyn is a desolate place, where semi-toxic swamps cover the land. In coming here, his mission was to retrieve an experiment from one of the tree shacks he built high above the swamp. However, the acid has eaten away the elevator that raises him to the top. Worse, his back up ladder has sank to the bottom of the swamp and would be harmful for him to use even if he could retrieve it.

To get him out of this pickle, Atrus has the following, non clothing items with him: a linking book to D'ni, a linking book to Tomahna, some rope, a bag of fire marbles, spare boots, a pen and ink well, some paper, an umbrella, plenty of food and fresh water, a lighter-like contraption, and a pet Squee. Using just these items, what would Atrus do?

He would use the linking book to Tomahna, signal the Stranger, and then fake some catastrophe that requires the Stranger going to this other age and fixing the elevator for him.

Meanwhile he would link to a nice beach and sip a fruity drink

It seems to me he would use the rope to climb up the tree, then, using the ink and paper he'd brought, write himself a link to the tree shack.

Hmmm... personally I would send the Squee up the tree with the rope, assuming Squees can be taught simple tasks, but I'm not Atrus.

I think Atrus would link back to Tomahna with his paper and ink and write in a subtle clause to the age (Spire/Haven linking chamber style) which would place a nontoxic ladder (or heck, even a new elevator) back on safe ground, ready to ascend into his treetop shack. Because if you can Write, well, there's really no excuse for mucking about in a swamp in the first place.
