I am now working on some banners which sidestep the financial condition of the game entirely...

Myst Online: Explore Wondrous Worlds

Myst Online: Unravel the Mystery

Myst Online: An Amazing Journey

...as this seems less contentious and simpler.

Still not sure of the wording, but these are some attempts at filling the blank space.

I will also consider something longer after that, in an animated Flash banner form that'll rotate through a sequence of lines...

Myst Online: Uru Live
Opens Again, Open Source
Fantasy Art, Amazing Worlds.
Realtime 3d, Multiplayer
Free to Play but donations welcome
Experience Myst like never before

Needs work but it's a start. Maybe.
Confused

Somehow the message neeeds to get across that donations exist even if it's free to play. It will otherwise not be effective to your goals. Many large organizations avoid the crass "Donate!" message by simply saying, for example, "Viewer Supported" (PBS). We might change that to "Fan Supported" or "Player Supported." But don't lose the message.

When I was re-working the MOUL Manual for MOULa, I wanted to change the tag line to something "newer" but RAWA said to stick with the "Destruction is coming..." blurb which now makes me want to suggest:
"Destruction is coming... Find a way... Make a donation" Cool

Yeah, but maybe just too few words... maybe something like "Supported by player donations". I prefer to 'player' to 'fan' since the latter maybe suggests that you need to be a committed enthusiast to want to donate.

That's a pretty funny slogan. Very Happy I don't know that it fits this game in it's current state though since destruction is no longer an issue in the Uru storyline. How about "An Age spanning experience, made in part by your donation." Or what about dropping the whole donate thing and go for slogans that attract like "Remember when books provided links to Ages?" Or "Books are B****s again..." Or "This ain't your grandfather's library..." Or "This ain't your granddaddy's Myst..." Or what about "Destruction is coming... Find a way... Play for free!" ?

While I continue work on a potential Myst fan film I have also spent a bit more time developing the Uru banners...

Here's one that is way too wordy and not polished enough, but it gets a more complete message across:

I'm also working on a bunch of the short slogans you all have suggested, and should have a bunch of those in banner form soon.

Here's another question, aside from the text - because we have been focusing mostly on text - what images do you think would best represent Uru? I have a directory of screenshots I'm using for this, but I would like your input on images. If you'd like to post a few of your favorite views of Uru, that'd be helpful.

Not bad. Very Happy Definitely a good idea!

If I may make a suggestion, you may want to avoid the specific phrase Free-To-Play, as it's a bit of an unfortunate misnomer these days which means "item shop meant to gouge you for more than a subscription would cost in order to achieve the same level of play" instead of, well, free. :/ That is to say: it may mislead people into thinking it's something it's not due to the way that phrase has gained notoriety.

You're right - the whole freemium trend is really annoying and that "free-to-play" phrase shouldn't have been used.

I'll try to avoid it in the future.

They look very nice, but I'd like to point out that "Explore Wondrous Worlds" spells "Eww".

Wow. Didn't notice that for some reason.

Anyway... just sift through all of these, use whichever ones you think would actually work, and avoid the rest.

I'm going to make a lot of attempts at this.

Some attempts will turn out well, some of them won't.

But hopefully a few of them will end up well.
