I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this. Last time I tried to open the game, my Nortons security decided that the game loader was a dangerous program and deleted it without first asking me. I managed to get back on to the game (after a very long process of updating), but when I tried to log back on the next time, I got an error message saying the patch loader failed to launch. I have tried running the program as administrator, but no change.

Does anyone know the solution to this?

You should be able to go into Norton and tell it to unquarantine the file. Go into quarantine then click the restore and options link. It should bring up a window saying "threat detected" and telling you that the threat has been removed. On the right side of the window there should be three buttons. Click the "restore and exclude this file" button. This should restore the program from quarantine.

Have looked through Nortons but can't find a "Quarantine" tab anywhere. Will keep searching.

I remember seeing a message to say the item had been quarantined, but it was followed almost immediately by another that said the "threat" had been deleted. I'm assuming, therefore, that I will not be able to restore it. I'm not very computer-savvy, so I lack the technical knowledge required to dig for these things.

Can you suggest what I might do if I can't restore the path loader?

You'd have to know specifically what was deleted to be that surgical.

The easiest path is simply to reinstall the game.

Open Norton and look for 'TASKS', then look for 'Check Security History'. Under 'SHOW' look for 'Quarantine'. There should be a record here of the file name of the file deleted.

glad for you Ta'nuki but i would suggest to use anything BUT norton (and maybe some others) which do that. they decide without warning and / or asking the user. i also know that there's a difference sometimes. some security software 'may' warn about viruses but not about trojans. anyone who can explain that is welcome... any threat should be shown...

anyway, you fixed it. welcome back

You can set Norton so that it asks you what to do beforehand. What you just described usually happens if you just run at default settings.

My computer came with Norton pre-installed. I simply let it expire. Except for the occasional WARNING! pop-ups, problem solved. Very Happy

You... could just uninstall it then... Wink

May as well as least use MSE. Having a non-functional program sitting around with warnings is just annoying!
