What many of our most brilliant physicists have long suspected is, in fact, true: beyond our universe, there are limitless others in mind-boggling variety. But humanity had never realized that the secret to those worlds was beneath its feet. For ten millennia, the D'ni lived in great caverns, ignoring the savages on the surface. Using their linking books, they built an empire that spanned dimensions. Its glory was ended abruptly a few centuries ago, and their city has stood empty. Until now.

Small groups of humanity have discovered the secret of the Deep City. Some have come to explore, and others have come to exploit. Some have been called to D'ni by a feeling they can't describe, and try to make it their home. Others look out to the Ages, the universes suddenly open to them, and see opportunity and hope. And there are those among the Ages who are not happy that D’ni has begun to breathe again.

The D'ni civilization is no more. But the ending has not been written.

InkWorks Productions is proud to announce the development of Unwritten, a role-playing game of adventure and exploration based on the Myst series of games by Cyan Worlds. Myst was the best-selling game of the 20th century, it spawned four sequels, a spin-off series, three novels and an MMORPG, Myst Online: Uru Live. But few realize that behind the game is a rich multiverse, filled with history and possibility.

Unwritten brings the surreal worlds of Myst and Uru to tabletop role-playing. Using the popular FATE gaming engine, Unwritten gives players the chance to delve into the depths of D'ni's troubled past, influence the future of the D'ni, and explore or even create new Ages. The D'niverse has room for any of the stories you want to tell. YOUR story is Unwritten.
Unwritten is currently in development by InkWorks Productions, under a licensing agreement with Cyan Worlds Inc. Be on the lookout for a Kickstarter project by InkWorks Productions to produce Unwritten, and a presentation (and possibly a demo) at Mysterium, the yearly gathering of Myst fans. Sales of Unwritten will help support MO:ULagain, the free, donation-supported Myst Online: Uru Live server run by Cyan Worlds, and Falling Man Group, a non-profit group supporting the Myst fan community.

I'll have you know something. There are no words to describe just how much I love you right now, for coming up with this amazing, novel, ingenious, brilliant, and utterly Myst idea. Nor is there a number to describe how many times I want to say 'Thank you!' I am sure that the same goes for everyone else, and if it doesn't, then I never want to see or hear of them every again.

Three cheers for Unwritten![/i]

I am incredibly excited for this. Can't wait to see what happens at Mysterium. This feels like everything I could ever want to play with.

I'm interested too, but I just don't see how it will be played. Any more general details (hurray for oxymorons!) you can give out? Should we expect actions like "Yeesha rolls a 20. Weather becomes stormy. Travel speed penalty: -20%."? Razz

Wow!!! Congratulations, Blade, Eleri and Gary!!! ... Razz

This is very impressive ... This is absolutely, authentically and pure YOU,
brewed, evolved and brought forth and manifested from the inside out, from
the deepest resesses of your heart and soul, since almost forever waiting
to be unfolded and to be set free ... Smile

Now you have a wonderful, suitable sphere of creative leeway which even
inspires and invites others to participate and the 'Unwritten Glimpses' point
to promising unlimited prospects and phantastic conceptions and creations...

I'm wishing you so much luck, success and fun with all you're aiming at and
I can't wait to see/get to know the first drafts or demos at the Mysterium ... Very Happy

Funny, I just finished "Changes" because a customer left at a store I was working at. The staff thought it was mine after being unclaimed for a week, placing with my tips.

I just got "Storm Rising" today, so I can go back and read the whole set of the Dreseden Files.

Anys, gotta go grap some food.

TtyLaterz!!!

Oh man, I am excited! I've only played various forms of D&D tabletops, but I'd totally try a new system for Myst!

(I had an epic dream about a Myst tabletop at one point--it was set in pre-Fall D'ni, and players were basically crack teams of grey hat/rogue maintainers and writers who would inspect, clean out, and fix up old family Ages that had grown strange or dangerous. I wonder if I could implement it within this framework?)

I can't wait to try it out at Mysterium! Very Happy

Actually yes. Easily. The default setting will be the resortation today, but we will have guidance on how to set an Unwritten game in any era of D'ni.

First thing I'll do is make my very own Spire Age from Myst IV. The most beautiful Age in my opinion.

Excellent!

IMO it's a hugely untapped potential of the Myst universe: we've never gotten anything aside from a single novel from during that time. Not a single D'ni-era game yet!

I will note that information from many eras of D'ni is still pretty scarce. Even the DRC has only a sketchy idea for parts of it. Don't expect a tell-all of all the things about the D'ni that you always wanted to know. On the other hand, that leaves a lot of room for people to build their own stories and make their own decisions for their particular game.

That thought hadn't even crossed my mind, somehow. I'm just excited to hear that we'll be able to play in that setting as well.

I'm most interested in actually how we play. Will it be based on role-play forum-esque posts? Will it be live? What will it be?
