MOULa's doing surprisingly well, for a game that's been canceled, brought back to life, cancelled again, then brought back again...

I wonder what it is about this game that's turned it into The MMO That Wouldn't Die? I'm sure really devoted fans plays into it a bit, but almost every MMO that ended up dead and staying that way still had devoted fans that liked it...what makes uru so different?

It's not, really. Many dead MMOs have fans, and projects to keep them alive, or transform them into other spaces, etc. Details may change, but overall it's not a wholly uncommon pattern.

It's due to text-speak. You see, in Uru's case "MMO" doesn't stand for "Massively Multiplayer Online"; we put "MMO" because we can't be bothered writing "iMMOrtal". Smile

Also, open source helps.

It's largely due to the passion of both the creators and players of the game.

MO:ULa would not have happened if (Cyan Worlds) had not made the effort to reopen it.

And it wouldn't have stayed open afterwards without the support of the players.

And now - with open source - the future of Uru has been handed over (almost entirely) to the players.
Where it goes from here depends on us.

I wonder if the kind of response here would make Uru commercially viable. Isn't that why it was cancelled in the first place? Not enough interest?

Newest update by Chogon is interesting for a couple of reasons.

1) The CAVCON number for July was not listed; instead we got 'N/A' which could mean either Not Available, or Not Applicable. What does that mean? We can only speculate.

2) The other intriguing note is that we've got a modest spike in log-ins and unique players, lately, over 4200 unique players logging in during July. That is an uptick in player engagement after many months of slow downward trends.

1) Just guessing, but I'd think N/A is "not available" - possibly whoever balances the books is on vacation Confused

2) There have been similar kinds of blip before: It's interesting, but I don't know if it's "significant", since a 5% month-to-month variation might just be down to differences in the lengths of the months plus some "noise".

Yes, N/A was for not available, as I hadn't been given the summary for July's Cavcon yet, and didn't want to delay the other stats any longer waiting for it.

Sorry for the confusion.
