Post Posted: Sat Aug 18, 2012 8:00 pm — Post subject: Rochester/Buffalo/Southern Ontario Area Mini-Mysterium?

Just wanted to gauge the interest level here:

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to this summer's Mysterium because I was in the process of moving at the time. I'm feeling a bit Mysterium deprived, and I thought it might be fun to organize a local mini-Mysterium for this fall.

Would anybody be interested in attending a mini in the Rochester/Buffalo/Southern Ontario area? If so, any thoughts about what you'd like to do or where you'd like it to be held?

I'd been batting around the idea of doing MagiQuest in Niagara Falls, but that was just a thought, not something I'm committed to.

Anybody up for coming to a gathering like that? Any other thoughts?

(I'll be out of town and away from the net on Sunday, so please excuse my slow response. I'll be back Monday.)

I'd be interested in coming to something like that. Niagara would certainly be a good idea, although I'm not sure if I'm so keen on MagiQuest.

I'm not committed to MagiQuest, it was just an idea. Wink That could even be a separate meetup at another time.

I realize that passports (or lack of, really) may be an issue for some people, and if that turns out to be a huge obstacle, we could always split it up. Either side of the border is fine for me.

It seems like there's some interest in this (I mentioned it on The Lyst and got a response there too,) so I'm thinking we should go ahead and start some planning.

What would people most like to do, so we can plan where to hold it?

I'm one of the passport-less, sorry. As for places to do a mini-Mysterium, Rochester has a Museum of Play that sounds like it would be a fun place to hang out and explore, and I hear there's a copy of Myst to play there! It has a coral reef aquarium too. And there's a science museum not too far away, for more goodness. Plus, there's at least 3 fans in the area.

There should be a mysterium in Corning. The glass museum is awesome!

Edit: Mysterium, not museum.

Would be great..Niagara would be horribly expensive....some place not so touristy would be better for my pocketbook.

I really like the suggestion of the Museum of Play. I think there's a lot there that Myst fans would find fun to do, and although the Corning museum is really neat, just in terms of other activities and varieties of places to eat, Rochester might offer a better selection. Rochester also isn't quite as pricey as Niagara.

That would have my vote - should we do a poll?

And any thoughts on when people would like to gather?

I'm only in the state until Christmas. We probably want some time in advance to plan and advertise (if we're advertising on any other forums or locations), so maybe October or November?

Well, here's something that I certainly wasn't expecting to see when browsing the forums. I live in the area, so I think it goes without saying that I'd be interested.

I'm in Rochester, so I'd go in on this as well. :) I think an October date would be wisest; travelling here is a lot more difficult after it's started snowing.

Did this ever happen? Was this a thing, or... what?

It didn't happen. Kaelri and I suggested a rough month timeframe, but nobody commented here or anywhere else about picking a firm date, so it's all still in limbo. I'd still really like to have this happen while I'm in town, so anytime between now and Christmas.

How would Saturday, December 8th work for people? In Rochester, NY, meeting at the Museum of Play for exploring and then food somewhere? I can provide information on places to eat, especially if anyone has food allergies or concerns.
