I've tried Windows 8 on several hardware configurations, and I have no problem with it whatsoever.
I'm not sure what all the griping is about. Though, I think desktop users don't like it because most of them are probably using an old-school bar-of-soap style mouse. I always use a graphics tablet or a trackball, which makes using Windows 8 on a desktop just fine since you can zip the cursor around with far less effort.
Traditional mice seriously bork up my wrist. I can't use them for extended periods of time...
>_O Personally, I think Windows 8 is fine. It works just as well as Windows 7, if not with better performance, and it still runs the same stuff.
The one thing I do like about Windows 8, is that searching seems to give instantaneous results. Searching from the start menu in Windows 7 is pretty much worthless to me, because I can usually find something faster than it takes for the stupid thing to come up with results.... ...and that goes for any pre-Windows 8 search.
The graphical stuff is fine to me, though, I think it's just that I never really have any problem adapting to graphical interfaces.
I've read tons of commentary on Windows 8, and I find it all hilarious.
Everyone apparently wailed and moaned when the start menu was introduced, now they're doing the same because it's gone. o_o
Some people actually try to make the case that Windows 7 is beautiful, while Windows 8 is ugly. o_o Seriously, there's nothing beautiful about Windows 7. There never was. o_o I have never actually seen a beautiful operating system. They do not exist.
People keep saying "kindergarten" for some reason. o_o As if every single GUI in an operating system these days isn't bouncy and cute.
Some people seem to think Windows 8 is visually jarring or something. Some people even say it interferes with their workflow. o_o I don't see how this is possible. I'm fairly sure these people are just being bitter because something in a computer program is slightly different. People do this all the time. It mystifies me. I think there are just a lot of people who navigate graphical interfaces by memory, rather than by trying to make sense of the visual and informational hierarchy of the environment.
o_o Windows 8 is fine. Everything is fine. See:

But, for the record, I don't really care all that much. What does interest me is how weird people can be about this stuff. Much to the point that I'm just fascinated by all the Windows 8 chatter I see.
