Well no they wouldn't do that... we can do that in real life all by ourselves.

Whoa. Of COURSE Cyan won't destroy Earth. That loses all vestiges of connections between IC and OOC. The whole point of Uru is that we, our real OOC selves, pretend for the duration of the game to enter a purely IC location. This radically changes if Sol novas.

According to Moke, there is to be no cleft in Live. This is posted on the Liaison site in the meeting summaries.

The destruction of earth is purely speculative. After all, "make a home" does bait the imagination, especially when it follows "destruction is coming." Although such an event would by necessity destroy D'ni entirely, and I suppose that's not what's intended. Or is it? It will be very interesting to see just what this means.

Not quite:

Moke (in the evening session on funding) wrote:

Q: Will new explorers to Live start with the Cleft and the Journey, or will they experience something else?
M: I can tell you that new explorers will not start out in the Cleft. It will still be necessary to complete the journey, but accessible in a different way. The idea behind this, is we wanted to get people to the heart of Uru more quickly. The heart being all of you - the community.

Oops. My bad. Some of what I was reading was broken up because it was still in raw log form. Sorry.

Maybe the volcano will erupt forcing us to find an alternate path to D'ni. Imagine the cleft looking like Gira. Hope Zandi moves that trailer.

Hmm, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah! Smile

Because Yeesha actually writes in EOA that she feels she is "destined to bring another destruction," you have to seriously consider whether Cyan has already used that in the plan for Uru Live 2. Moke has said they have used elements of EOA, thought perhaps not as we expect (loose quote). He also says the Cleft will be be necessary to complete the game, but we will begin in the "heart" of the community to get us to a faster start.

Perhaps Yeesha reawakens the volcano! All those rumblings are are a good predictor of a Mount Saint Helen's kind of event, and it's been in the news again. That could be why the Cleft is not immediately available, and the Great Shaft, well, what's the easiest path for the magma to follow? Uh huh. Talk about cataclysms.

That's what I get for not reading a whole thread and just skipping to the end. Embarassed

Either that, or GMTA (Great Minds Think Alike).

It could still be Kadish or Escher, after all Atrus' boys did get out of their prison ages and we don't know what the Bahro did with Escher.

I just hope that my Relto isn't involved in the destruction. Finding a new home might be difficult in the city.

I see vagrants sleeping in the streets and neighborhoods of the Cavern all the time. Apparently there's no law against it, so just pick up a few cones and mark off your own spot.

Interesting theory about the volcanoe, although I hope it doesn't happen becuase the cleft and the well, are two of my all time favorite places to go (in UABM and EAO).

But I don't think it will.

If EOA Takes place after Uru live 2 the DRC apparently fixes the well and everything there, plus the mountiain is still rumbling in EOA, and there is no evidence of a destruction of the tunnels or a mount saint hellens explosion. So...however pleasing...it probably won't happen.

If UL is placed after Myst V that is...

Not true. That young D'ni boy... Ri'neref... he's pretty talented. I say have him write a link to an Age much like Earth. He can link all of us humans into a cavern deep below its surface, to learn a little humility.

Upon completing PoTS I returned to the storeroom in Kadish Tolsa, and noticed a linking book in the corner near the entrance. I don't think it had been there earlier.

Do you think what you find next could be relevant to this discussion?

I would like to point out that since Yeesha saves Kadish in PoTS, maybe he could come back and cause problems?

Who knows, maybe a faulty Age Edit could destaqbilize the Cavern, throwing the plaers into separate places and forcing them to find eachother.

That woudl be a cool system, start in different Ages but come together and forge a new community?
