How about a hidden Linking Book, hidden by a unique puzzle that is different for each player.

That way no one could give away the solution. A random generated number code as part of the puzzle would do it.

The specific steps in the solution could be randomized as well.

Mazes are fun...Smile Secret passages too. The start of the hunt could be in any age.

You'd get the book in relto, but you could only share with those that have already found their own.

That sounds like a nice idea, but I'm not sure how the steps in the solution could be randomized.

"easily" done, the code for the imager at the end of Uru Prime is randomly generated each game (character that is).

But the steps for the solution to the code for the imager is the same for everyone.

Maybe I misread Traveler's post, but when he/she said "The specific steps in the solution could be randomized as well", I took it as meaning that to solve the puzzle, the steps to the solution would be completely out of order, along with the "random generated number code" that is also seen for the imager.

I saw the "random generated number code" and the "randomized solution steps" as two different things, not the same thing, which is why I'm not sure how the steps could be randomized. Confused

Thinking about an age like that gave me some ideas,
here is one of them.

A thought is that one young writer had a very
depressing time, he was very troubled and
had problems which seemingly he had no
way to solve. Trough out the years this
problem haunted him, he could not get
rest from it. One day he decided that the
only posible way to solve his dilemma he
had to confront it in forms he would have more control of,
rather than only in his mind.
So to have a more hands-on and confront it,
he created an age around his problem.
Within a dome there was one "way in" and one "way out".
Inbetwin the result.
He interlinked the "way in" and "way out" with symbols and numbers
to affect each other and in the end also affect the result.
Each part had its linking book so he could monitor the effects
the changes would have betwin them as he linked
to get an result and solve his dilemma.
What he learned and came to terms with that his problem
was a paradox. His findings later become a teaching tool
to other writers. They evolve and rewritten the age,
so on the basis, whom has entered would learn the meening not to get cought up in a bad paradox.

Good idea! Riven and Revelation come to mind. They both have at least one unique number/puzzle problem that changes every time a new game is played.

I liked mazes the first few hundred times I played them, but not anymore.
Secret passageways are always fun, however.
I also liked learing the D'ni numbers and letters, and enjoy puzzles that use them.

Yes, I liked the randomised number puzzles in Riven. I rather wished they'd randomised the colours and symbols for the domes as well--same symbol meaning same colour, but different symbol on a given dome every time. They could also have done some of that in realMYST for my money. Ah well.
