Hogarth,

Just so you know, I wasn't being fecetious and my back wasn't up. Indeed, I was so appreciative I rolled over to submit and bare my soft, white underbelly for you to tickle. Wink

Yes, I surely could care substantially less about grammar. It's a shame only Hogarth will understand the humor of that.

I've always wondered...if I drink lakewater, will I glow, too?

The 'pellets' in Er'cana would have been needed in HUGE amounts to provide sustainable light in the cavern, and even then, we saw that the pellets only last for a short amount of time. I think Kadish knew this, and had planned for a more 'temporary' fulfillment of the prophecies.

KADISH: "Look! I make the lakewater glow!"

*several moments later*

PEOPLE: "Uuh...it's not glowing anymore. What happened?"
KADISH: "Who cares! I fulfilled the prophecy, didn't I?"

...Er'cana, like the rest of Kadish's Ages, were built to temporarily hoax the D'ni into thinking he was the Grower. The DRC is going to need more than a few 'algae-pellets' to achieve a permanent solution.

Simple answer - population. Its common to get algal blooms in the sea where effluent runs into the water - maybe the lake used to be brighter because of a cities worth of sewage was running into it. Question

<Starlion scoops up a bucket of lake water and drops "something" into it out a of brown paper bag, causing it to glow brightly>

If anybody from the DRC is listening, I know where to put the bathrooms Laughing

Funny, just saw this posted at Digg.com:

Anyway, staying on topic: If there's anyone around who really wants the cavern to stay dark, I haven't met them yet. What seems to be up for debate is the manner with which we approach the problem. As already said above, a few grain pellets aren't going to permanently restore the cavern. Furthermore, we don't know if the pellets are completely harmless; they could cause problems in larger quantities. I have mentioned before that I would oppose anyone who tried to dump several truckloads of pellets into the lake because we don't have enough evidence that it's OK to do so.

That still doesn't explain why there's no 30-hour cycle. Regardless of how the algae are being 'fed', they still have their natural dormancy cycles. I think it has more to do with the plauge that Veovis and Ae'gaeris released on D'ni than anything else. It nearly killed the algae.
