there may be no jokes are lighter moments...

Myst
The channelwood book; the colours of the inks changing that was a joke played on Atrus if I remember right.
The wind up toys in the mechanical age.

Riven, the toy in the schoolroom that you use to learn numbers.

Exile
The welcoming by Catherine and Atrus was very light, not "funny" per se but not heavy either - until old grumpy knickers turned up.

Myst IV
the mangree playing on the totem pole and hitching a lift with you on the ride back.

Yeesha at Tomanaha - jabbering away about nonsense like most 10 year olds, showing you the lizard, playing that irritating pipe etc.

Just a few off the top of my head.

The Mangrees were my favorite. It was so cute when one rode with you on the ride back!

You know what I think is really funny?

The way completely new threads are started when there's another one on pretty much the same exact topic already running!

That always cracks me up... Laughing

You know what cracks ME up? when I reply to an established thread and then put something in the subject line and it automatically creates a NEW thread. How funny is that? Shocked

Where as on virtually every other board I've ever used, the subject is just a way of highlighting or titling your post.

The fact that my post starts as a continuation, is indicative that I didn't intend it to be a new thread. No sirree.

So actually it is a fault/feature/quirk of this board that caused that to happen. As it was only my second post, I have learned quickly that the "subject" line is to be completely ignored when replying and shan't make the same mistake again.

Hi Martin and Welcome to the Forums.
I just wanted to say thanks for teaching me something new. I always ignored the subject line before but now I know a quick way to start a new topic. (unless they actually fix it) In my office the rule is"If you learn something new, you get to go home" Since I'm already home, I hope this doesn't mean I have to go back to the office. Laughing

Maybe the two threads can be merged.

Yeah. I think I noticed that bug somewhere else... I found that being sure to "Preview" the post showed me the topic I was replying to. If it didn't, it meant I was making a new topic. I always ignore the subject bar, too... No harm done. Laughing

If it happens again, though, you might want to (as soon as you notice) replace the post with something like "Whoops, I somehow created a new topic. Delete, please!" That way people know it's just an honest mistake.

It's not a fault, it's just the way of this kind of phpBB forum.

martinrandle, I'll gladly eat my foot on this one, irregardless that my post was intentionally humorously sarcastic.

I gambled on the percentage that your thread was created without bothering to notice and/or contribute to any preexisting, topically-similar threads. In truth, my comment wasn't directed in a specifically personal manner toward yourself, just on the condition of multiple threads in general, as it seems to serve to really gum-up boards, confusing them over time.

Also, I agree that each forum indeed does have its own quirks, as I've noticed that myself.

The bits you mentioned in your original post about humor were fine too, btw, so please don't let this put you off at all on posting about whatever else in the future. Smile
