Post Posted: Sat Jun 10, 2006 1:30 am — Post subject: Uru Live: The GrassRoots Ad campaign!

Using the logo made by FreeLanZer and Yali from here http://www.urulive.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=6750#6750
I have made a bunch of screen-capture widescreen backgrounds/images to use either for your own personal computer, or to post on forums, websites and the like (Notice the images at a resolution of 512 X 300).
Here's the link: http://www.phalkon13.com/urulivepics.php

Unofficially, (from what I've gathered, this is not a "set-in-stone" quote) Cyan is going for the more grassroots "word of mouth" type of campaign from us fans right now. What the future holds for thier upcoming Ad campaign, I can't say, but I thought that these shots would be a great start!
If anyone has any other suggestions, fan-art, or anything else to add to help spread the word, please do so!!!
Also, I am posting this to say "feel free to use these photos" to spread the word, whether it be on other forums, your own personal websites, MySpace/Friendster, personal journal pages, etc...".

Oh, and I will be creating some normal-sized shots from these, but not for a little while (when I get time).
Until Uru lives again!!!!!

Get the game listed at MMORPG.com and their hype meter.

MMORPG.com issues email bulletins for people to keep abreast of development/news.

I used to use it for WoW during beta.

The site is used by a lot of gamers and other people. Good exposure.

I love some of those pics. Like the one of the Hall of Kings. That perspective is really neat.

I've submitted URU Live to MMORPG.com twice. Maybe Cyan should go knocking on their door.

Thank you all very much. Like I said, there's at the public's disposal for use to promote Uru Live. Also, like I said on the site, the D'ni Jazz Club ( http://www.dnijazzclub.com/ ) is hosting some stuff of thier own for part of the Grassroots campaign (they did it before me, lol) over here: http://dnijazzclub.com/grassroots/uru-live/

FYI MMORPG.com's criteria for their games list:

* Game must support 500+ players in a single, persistent world (this means the world should not frequently "shut down" or reset and should be centralized and available 24/7)
* It must be graphical...so no text based MUDs.
* It must use a true client/server connection. In other words, no HTML or "web" based games. Games that run in a browser using Java are OK.
* It must contain good RPG elements. We define this as having control of a single character and there being some sort of leveling or skill advancement system in place.
* The game must have a nice web site free of annoying pop-up ads or Spyware programs.
* There must be at least 3 in-game screens that show the game engine...3D renderings do not count.
* The game must fully support English. This means the client interface, in-game chat, help system and support website must all be in English.

Hmm...

Number 4 is the only iffy criteria. I hope there won't be leveling, but there may be skill advancement at some point.

Still, isn't that bullet point a little limiting in its scope?

its because MMORPG.com is for role playing games. URU is not however an RPG therefore the RPG criteria is not filled

Does collecting Relto pages count as leveling? Razz

Also, I've been a happy player and GM of many ruleless or stats-free RPGs, so I feel it a little limiting that an RPG is defined by having 'some form or leveling'. An RPG is by definition a game where you play a role, and pretending to be an explorer of a long dead civilization counts as such to me. Very Happy

it says you need some way to advance your character. I dont think that customisation counts as this (which is basically what clothingand relto pages are). In essence mr newbie in URU has as much "power" as mr HARDCORE URULICIOUS Sam Smile

Regardless, greydragon stated via pm that he has already sent them some screens. I guess we'll learn in time how strict MMORPG is with their criteria. They do have some games on the list that don't necessarily meet all of the criteria, e.g. Second Life & There.
