There were multiple temples, built by early kings. However, they were mainly for the rich. Temples for the poor were created later, though.

The Temples of some Earth cultures had pillars as so some of the D'ni buildings, which derives from the early prototypes of the Earth structures modelled after worship areas in Sacred Groves. It would seem possible that such veneration for natural settings, with trees, such as the Great Tree, and the living Egg form of some of the structures in RIVEN, (even tho they were not specifically D'ni but Rivenese) that some of the natural forms would have come with the D'ni from their other Ages to this city under the Earth in the Cavern. I have only just begun to study the structure types in the city, and hope to find some sort of indication of the development over time and for specific uses for faith and worship structures as well as the secular ones. I am feeling from the reports that I have studied from the DRC gathered materials that the D'ni indeed had a strong thread throughout their culture of faith, but it combined faith in our sense of religion with a faith in Powers and Forces that include both natural ones, and D'ni developed ones, for the power that their technolgoy gave rise to seems mirrored in the power that developed among the Kings and the Guilds and the Masters, and this effected the development and eventual outcome for the society as a whole.

Much to consider ......

Glad to see that others share a curiousity about this-- it's my primary area of interest amongst the many streams of D'ni culture. I hope there's a lot more to come.

This makes me want to hold small D'ni religious tours. Perhaps places like the floating stone in Eder Kemo, etc were also used for prayer and meditation. It'd be nice to do a walking tour like that!

Oh, and thanks for answering my question. Very informative ^^;

Not to mention weddings.

The description of D'ni weddings in the analogy of Marriage on the Takotah roof makes Eder Kemo an ideal place for such - with the bridal party linking in at one end and the groom's party linking in at the other. The floating statue may represent the Prophetess both symbolically as a spiritual representation and as a marker for where the Prophetess that presides over the ceremony itself approaches from as both parties unite in the center of the garden.

Embarassed Just a theory.

They did, but their wedding ceremony wasn't described, as far as I remember. Their wedding probably proceeded as a standard D'ni marriage, described in one of the DRC notebooks.

Oh, and the link crrash provided covers pretty much everything we know about D'ni religion Wink
