In the real world, when people like a book, the author frequently will write a sequel. So, how about instead of revisiting the original Riven, someone writes a new one, Riven Reborn. Bigger, better, with most of the original features and a whole lot of new things? More islands, more secrets, more people?

That same can be done with any age we have already seen. Write a sequel that expands upon the original. Preserve the old that we love, while adding new, unexplored apects to keep us explorers on our toes.

Just a thought...

"Yeesha, My Desert Bird, your mother Kathrin has just released Riven 2.0 with new stability Bug fixes and moving water, adding the 2.0 version number has allowed us to charge another $15.95 per upgrade, but, we're worrried about it being pirated so we've incorperated Star-Fissure Copy-Protection pages into it."

Ahh... A man can dream, A man can dream... *giggle* Stop it Atrus! *cough*

Somehow I had never thought of this specific metaphor, but it makes a lot of sense.
Now about doing Riven "Bigger, better" that's quite a challenge. I'm not sure the Cyan guys themselves would like to try.. Wink

The idea of reintroducing Riven by having a new book of Riven written bothers me greatly. Firstly, who would recreate a flawed and unstable Age? Secondly, everything that really made the game Riven what it was, was built by Gehn during his imprisonment.

What we have been told about The Art implies that it would be impossible to even recreate the Age of Riven, let alone recreate it with Gehn, and his domes.

My original post was intended as a counter suggestion to the discussions about bringing back Riven in Uru via theories of multiple parallel realities, that were being discussed at the time. Those theories felt somewhat strained to me. The original post popped into my head, as a solution that seemed more viable.

None the less, I still felt that Riven should not be put into Uru in any way, but I felt obligated to make my idea known in case Riven was to be included anyway.

I still feel that Riven should not be included in Uru Live, and I still feel that my original post represents a slightly less obtruseive way of undertaking a bad idea.

That's all I intend to say on the matter.

Seeing a lower quality realtime Riven to explore in Uru is cool. Everyone loves the nostalgia of seeing something from the past redone for the better.

But as Atrus himself pointed out, we are probably better off leaving the past alone.
