Where has this been confirmed?

In a conversation with Blake, one of Cate's friends, he said "Cate's statement reflects both IC and OOC."

But Cate isn't real, she's a DRC character. I meant confirmed OOC.

I kinda have mixed feelings about this. I'm not sure I'd be happy with billboards in my face or pop-ups when I link....

I understand by Marie's response on the chatlog that merchandising in the past lost Cyan money. However, what may have failed in the past doesn't mean it will now. Lucas Arts has been very successful selling action figures and other toys by making deals with places like Burger King.

Mostly joking but with some degree of seriousness, people have been saying that we need a Pizza Shop or a McDonalds in the Strip Mall. I think it would be cool to approach say Dominos Pizza or one like it and McDonalds and see if a deal can be made. "Buy a Yeesha doll and get $X amount off your Pizza"...."Buy a Riven Dagger and get $X amount off your burger." etc. A McDonalds and Dominos shop could be set up as the ingame ad somewhere in the strip mall.

I for one would buy any one or all of the main characters...Even Zandi's trailer......T-shirts, Books, Posters....

Just musing a bit...Smile

The comment, however, was OoC from this character, who, ICly, is "Cate's friend".

Yes, that makes sense!

If Nick showed up and said that the cavern was closing tomorrow, and we asked a ResEng, and they said this was IC as well as OOC, we should obviously think that the issue is still open because although it was stated to be also OOC, the original statement was made by an IC construct

Absolutely, 100% makes sense! Wink

I am vehemently opposed to any form of advertising that makes me wait, i.e. "your age will load in 29 seconds... 28... 27..."

And I am viciously opposed to advertising with sound, whether in the cavern or elsewhere.

Frankly, while I would keep playing if they included unobtrusive visual advertising, I would find myself wondering why I was paying a monthly fee to play. They should either charge me money or make me look at ads, but not both.

I love Uru, so I would be willing to pay a little more to get an "ad-free" account, if they simply must have advertising in the game.

In the chat logs it stated that billboard ads were the last resort but are we talking generating revenue IC like I hear they do in WOW by purchasing items needed in the game so we or whoever would be purchasing equipment or apparel? or the ability to customize some of our stuff... or like Second life- purchase land or items for our avatar? So we could pay to open a second room in our bevins or the ability to customize our avie? That would certainly put a new spin on how we interact with the game!

I don't think we have heard all of the options, or any really. We hear advertising and immediately think of the Cavern plastered with large obnoxious signs.

I emailed the DRC weeks ago and of course never heard back but suggested that some of the Bevins could "advertise" their events on the imagers in the Cavern so we would have more information IC as to what was happening if only they would fix those darned imagers. We have them available in the bevins and in our Relto and they work why can't the cavern versions be fixed as well. I would put up with scrolling ads on a few of the imagers if we could share the space with other IC info.

Blake is Blake Lewin. He's with GameTap. He's as real as you or me. Wink

I'm not interested in ads.

Period.

I can't think of a thing I'd want to buy because I saw an ad for it in Uru.

Except maybe a few Uru-themed items such as mugs, t-shirts, magnets, tea towels. And I'd just as soon see a link for those at the web site. Unfortunately, if I saw for them in-game, I'd be likely to assume it was IC and not go look for the items OOC, so to speak.

Cyan and Gametap need someone a little more creative in the fundraising department.

just read a post about dynamic ads i.e. sound playing while laoding or leaving the scene or game, no way would or will i continue to play URU if there is a jingle running each time i log in or off, in game pics or some sort of logs on shirts are fine, but i will NOT be chaed into the cavern by dynamic ads of ANY kind, no matter how much I love URU. sorry, I turn the channel on the TV each time an ad comes on no matter what the program is, and i keep changing channels until I find a real program, thus watching tv with me is not somehting anyone not equally deidcated to an ad free life is willing to do.

I will not have my visual experience of the world interfered with by sales messages, i am a vusual artist, and I keep my visual frontier clean as i can. But I do support the idea if it is helpful to the game. I understand the needs of support.

Since for some reason posts keep vanishing, I'll try once more what I was trying to say! Maratanos, you didn't have to be sarcastic. I asked the question because I don't know. Blade, thank you for answering it.

I have talked about this option many times and I will repeat again that it is the only way for Uru Live to stay on line.

If it was my decision, there would be new sponsered ages (separated from the game ages). It would fun if we had a sponsered "beach (s) age for a bit of relaxing and fun times etc, etc. What about an age with discos and concert halls where we would get sponsered music and/or concerts of all kinds ?

Lets go with US car manufacturers, Coke and Pepsi co. Show us what you would like to see in our game

I consider this thread as another wake up call for all sides.

Thank you to the "sponsor"
