Post Posted: Thu Jan 03, 2013 11:28 am — Post subject: [Minkta] No glyph on kivas 2, 3

Folks,

After finding the first kiva, walking through the glyph, got a zigzag glowing pattern underneath the cage with no circles around it. But then on finding kivas 2 and 3, I also walked toward the zigzag constellation, slowly and using 'go where I click'. No glyph. I eventually wound up at the cage.

Then I read the post 'Massive Minkata Frustration:

http://www.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=100&Itemid=39#6

and restarted my client. Replayed Kiva 2, no change. Verified through the Guild of Greeters walkthrough that I had done everything correctly and consistently.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Zahadum,

Constellation changes for each Kiva. When you exit kiva 2, look for the constellation that resembles the path you walked on to get to kiva 2. Run or walk towards this constellation and you will see the glyph at some point.

Welcome, Zahadum ... Razz

Yeah, those glyphs are quite tricky ... You don't run into them when running straight in the direction of the resp.
constellation, they approach resp. pass you by from the right or from the left, so you have to constantly look for them
right and left ... sometimes I even switch from first person to third person and back and forth, cause the glyphs can be
spotted better in one or the other way ... There is even one of them, I don't remember which one, the second or the fourth
kiva, I believe, where you have to run and run and when you think, oh my, maybe I've missed it already, then you have to
run a bit further before you encounter it (to the right I believe) ...

You see, Zahadum, it is worth to not give up, you'll make it in the end, everybody did somehow, and maybe everybody has
had his/her own special different experiences ... There are some helpful Minkata marker missions around for those with less
patience and perseverance or maybe time ... I wish you however much luck and fun further on and a Happy New Year ... Very Happy

Based on what you said, I would tell you- non-spoiler, Zandi-style hint: you may need to approach the problem from a different direction. Wink

More spoiler-ish hint:

This is your issue, here. The zigzag constellation is only for one of the kivas, not all.

Try this:

Count the number of compass roses +1 (for the cage itself). That will tell you which constellation to choose.

Much appreciate all of your help! Now unstuck...

In retrospect, it was dirt simple, after plotting all those courses and then (being a lazy person) computed the vector sum...

Minkata is an age that mearly got solved the intended way designed by Cyan folks the least. Everyone is lazy for Minkata. If you would follow trail you should...

hear music when on the "trail" and stop hearing it when off the trail thus helping you out following all the lengths.

The vector sum is always a solution, there's another one that is pretty much simpler...
If you read on the big stones the writting: "Follow Your Path under the Stars", it's a hint for each return from one kiva to the center inside the cage.

You can also understanding it this way: if you are in the night version, you can always spot every kivas from the center cage quite easily because they are glowing.

Here's one solution that make it simple to solve Minkata without even going out of it 1 single time:

1) Run to Kiva 1 (the closest one, you can spot it easily when entering Minkata)

2) Touch symbol, touch appearing glyph, run to cage, touch stone (you should be in day version and prisonner of the cage at the end of all these actions)

3) Touch the stone again, spot one of the kivas, you should see a white bright disc in far distance, once you spotted it, make sure to be aligned, use keyboard to make sure you won't deviate during the run, run straight forward, sometimes you will see the bright white disc, sometimes not, just keep running toward it nevertheless, before you know it you will be there.

4) Inside that kiva, do 2 swaps: night-day, day-night. Then go back to step 2.

I don't use that method though, I'm using a variant of it (I run to the farthest kiva in day time by memory instead of reaching closest kiva, the remaining is done the same way). The method is the easiest (given the fact you don't have marker quests to help you out).

Wow... I just had to go and check this out. Turns out...

It's TRUE... in the night version of Minkata, I was able to make out a tiny disc-like glow in the mist on the horizon, over a couple of the kivas, even tho the kivas themselves were far out of my range of sight!!!

Thanks for sharing that!

And another thing... just a good fact for anyone who wants to be familiar with Minkata:

If you stand in front of the cage in daylight, right at the little pointy rock that points North... you cast three shadows...Your shadow that points slightly to the right, aka north-northeast, pretty much points directly to the first kiva.

I have a strange relationship with Minkata, in that even after I completely surrendered and used a walkthrough, it still took me days to complete. It is the ONLY Age that 'beat me' in that I never got my head around it... I completed it but never actually solved it. In other Ages, I might have gotten a bit stuck, peeked at a walkthrough, then kicked myself for doing so because the answer was obvious!! Still, I consider Minkata the ONLY Age I couldn't solve.

I thought that was a graphical glitch, though? It doesn't show for everyone, I think.

True, it doesn't show for everyone. I used to use this glitch to solve Minkata in about 20 minutes, but since getting a new computer set up, I can't see the white lines anymore and now have to do it the way it was intended.

It might help to turn your Graphic Quality and Texture Quality to the best settings Wink If you take the quality by default then you might not get the details I have when I'm playing.
