Post Posted: Sun Aug 19, 2007 7:38 pm — Post subject: POD PORTAL TIMES

I just returned to the game after months and got this pod predictor
http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3748

The portals are not appearing according to this schedule. Any insights?

Thanks!

Smile

There was a 10 minute plus or minus for portal show times. That could have increased.

Thanks. I was in two pods a half-hour early and stayed a half-hour later. I don't THINK I fell asleep... Very Happy

We had the best luck with this one.

Graphical calendar for the pod-age

The.Modificator and I have revised and adjusted the graphical calendar for the pod-ages.

The new address for the graphical calendar is http://www.uru-reallife.com/dnidatetime/release5/

We have changed the bar for Negilahn.
You will see now the next portals already in local times and in UTC if you cross a date with your mouse.

Furthermore, there are now also calendars for Dereno, Payiferen and Tetsonot integrated.

We like to thank everybody for your feedback and inspirations and hope, that the calendar will help those who like it. And please remember: it's still a beta Wink .

And be careful if you don't like spoilers.

Mucol

Edit 06.07.07 address changed

Hmmmm, those times match the other predictor. But the portals weren't showing. I think I'll send in a ticket.

Thank you.

Hmm, that's a very old program, and has had quite a while to accumulate inaccuracies.

It's been ~120 days since that program was posted, or somewhere around 4 months. That's around 184 negilahn days. If the the total day length used in that program was off by.. say, 30 seconds.. times 184.. would make it off by about 92 min, or 1:32 min. That's definitely longer than you waited. Very Happy

Anyway, my suggestion, use a newer calculator, or one that has been updated recently, such as the one semplerfi just mentioned, http://www.uru-reallife.com/dnidatetime/release5/, this one, by me, just had to post it Very Happy, http://urulive.guildaxis.net/?page_id=103, or this one, http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11735, very recently released.

Edit: posted while you were.. Not sure why they wouldn't be showing. I got my pod wedges on one of my avvies quite recently. Which pod were you trying for?

I've compared the two predictors, and the times are about same, at least today's times are.

Dereno and Payiferen is where I went. I'll check deeper into the calculators. Somehow I figure it is my error, but I haven't discovered it yet!

For instance, the calculator you linked me two is only 10 minutes ahead of the old calculator for Tetsonot, today: Old = 18:20, Yours = 18:30. I'll be there at 18:00 (6 pm) to see what happens.

Thanks!

You do know that the portal in both of those pods appears on the lower floor, right? (You should have heard the music when it appeared, anyway, and still have had time to get down the ladder if you were waiting up above.)

Thanks, Brett. I've actually been through these portals many times, but I've been away for 5 months and I'm having fun re-doing it all. Smile

I submitted a ticket about the portals not appearing, and I got this terse response:

The pod predictors are not always accurate I suggest solving the ages the way there were meant to be solved.

J.Bronson
Uru Live Support Team

Is there any other way to do the pods than figure out the times?

How long have you been staying after the time that the predictors state?

Figuring out the times *is* the way to solve the pods...

I hate to say this, but J.Bronson sometimes seems to give incorrect/inaccurate responses to tickets... :\

You might try going to a pod with someone else and see if the portal appears for them and not you. If it does, submit another ticket. If not, then you know there is something wrong with the time given by the predictor.

I've stayed for up to a half-hour AFTER.

Just got the Tetsonot portal. It arrived 5 minutes later than the old predictor said, and 5 minutes earlier than all the new ones. It obviously pays to come early and stay late. I have NO idea why Dernon and Payiferen didn't show for me today--I wish support didn't just blow me off.

Anyhoo...tomorrow's another day!

Thanks!

Well Romer, they did not come out with the Predictors, and they probably looked at the code, saw that you came in too late or left too early and then suggested you play the game as it was designed. Since they are not responsible for them...
Try my portal spreadsheet - It's been about 2 months since I checked to update it, so it shouldn't be too far off.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pP-ragETkmN-9q1C6XpdUCw

Here are the next 3 sets from my sheet in KI time:
Negilahn Aug 20 2007 3:32:53
Dereno Aug 20 2007 4:45:26
Payiferen Aug 20 2007 5:20:13
Tetsonot Aug 20 2007 8:06:32
Negilahn Aug 20 2007 3:32:53
Dereno Aug 20 2007 20:28:31
Payiferen Aug 20 2007 21:03:18
Tetsonot Aug 20 2007 23:49:37
Negilahn Aug 21 2007 10:59:03
Dereno Aug 21 2007 12:11:36
Payiferen Aug 21 2007 12:46:23
Tetsonot Aug 21 2007 15:32:42

Is it possible that predictors become less accurate through the course of a year as the sun moves position in the sky?

In other words, is there an eccentricity to the orbit of our planet, combined with axial tilt, to create a seasonal shifting of the portal times closer together then further apart?

Where is the equator of our pod map anyways? It doesn't say what's what, just gives numbers. Bah.

I doubt it's the problem.. not if we're still predicting. That and it'd be nasty work for Cyan coding compared to how it seems to be set up.

Eh, I've had spread of up to 15 minutes before, so I arrive about 20 minutes early, and wait. Generally good advice for something as variable as those things. I've also had everyone shout they got their portal right on time, then not had mine for 10 minutes, and been the only one without. They spread. Don't worry.

"How it's meant to be played" might just be PotS style waiting patiently for hours after all... Shocked Rolling Eyes
