Not that I'm casting the stone of disbelief, but where are these entries from Sharper? I would like to read them, and I seem to not be able to find them in any of his journals in either D'ni or Teledahn. If this is true, then it would be a fascinating find.

I understood him to be referring to the Bahro stone in his office in Ae'gura.

Hmm... not sure where I saw this, but I did... Not in DPWR's articles but I know I've seen the entry somewhere.

However. What Simpson found was NOT a stone slate. He found one of those Bahro stones (I think the one linking to the prison in Gahreesen due to the mention of "over-hanging rocks" which may have made the Bahro too frightened to link in (and there are hanging rocks in Teledahn)).

Douglas was refering to the Bahro Stones not the Slates.

Sharpers journals can be found here if your interested in reading; DJC Uru Journals

heh heh, yeah I saw that, and knew that he was talking about the Bahro stone. Was looking for a mention about another stone, and saw none. LOL. Well, shoot.... I was hoping that Cyan was blending everything together so much more, it would definatly add to the awesomeness factor. Well, here's to dreaming......

Guess this forum post is a closed case then.

I'm wouldn't be so sure that the stone Douglas refers to is the same thing as the linking stones you see throughout uru.
When he describes the situation, it doesn't seem he is talking about the linking slates.
First of all, he never describes the linkingcloth that is bound over it.
Second of all, many of the stones lay about, in places without any hanging rocks or other kinds of protection.
and third of all, read carefully, Douglas states at one point that Simpson tells him HE COULD NO LONGER TAKE THE STONE, and it is because of that, that Douglas begins to suspect the creatures.
Why can't Simpson take the stone ??? is he not able to touch it any longer ?

Much stuff one can consider.

erm he can't keep taking it cause the DRC would catch him, the DRC we're against Yeesha and the bahro back when those entries were written.

how he explains the stone, It sounded like a Bahro stone. He says how he also now has it in his office. There IS in fact a Bahro stone in his office, proving this point.

The only way he would've been able to get the slate would've been to take the journey. If you remember, the slate has to choose you, so if Simpson got the slate, Sharper wouldn't have been able to touch it, and vice-versa.
Plus, I think they would've noticed Sharper gone to take that journey for so long, not to mention any records he would've kept of the experience.

add to the fact that it is the Tablet you cannot touch again after you have lost it not the Slates.

I also always thought that Douglas was refering to the linkingstones, it was only that the "can not touch the stone anymore" line made me doubt what he exactly meant.
Maybe Cyan already had the idea of the slates at that time but we can't be sure.
I know how the DRC stood against Yeesha, I've played Uru from the beginning also, and even tasted some of the online gameplay when all of a sudden it was put to sleep Confused.

Now I try to put some things in a different context, as Myst 5 primarily creates a bridge between the Uru storyline, and that of the pre-existing Myst games.
So that's why I think Douglas might mean things otherwise, either way, neither the linkingslate, or the tablet have been properly explained, so whatever he means, it's very mysterious an wonderous..

He said that Simpson couldn't get (/steal) it again.

Let's not forget the Post-It note on Simpson's journal in Gahreesen

Quote:

Simpson,

Don't mention the upper areas in your report.
I don't want people searching all over Teledahn for that weird link stone.

Well, that's from memory. But, it's something like that. Smile

Wasn't that just in reference to the link stone that allows you access to the upper portion of Gahreesan in Uru Prime?

I think the note and the journal entry reference the same stone since the only link stone that's by hanging rocks is the Gahreesen stone (perhaps the Bahro wanted to put it somewhere else? Maybe closer to Gahreesen itself to help us?)

He doesn't for the other mention of the stone. When someone references something, they don't describe it perfectly (unless writing an Age about it Razz).

"I don't want people searching all over Teledahn for that weird link stone with a cloth on top of it and a small crack in the right-hand corner and hey that one crack looks like Roosevelt..."
