The animals are alive and well in the pod areas, i spent a day in the Payferin Pod and saw the huge Sand Bird Creature, it stomped around my pod for about five minutes, eating things and making big noises, i logged into the pod about 10:00 and it appeared about two hours later..... what a monster that is.

UPDATE: One of our premier observers Greypiffle has posted videos of each of the three main creatures in the two pods that feature land based life forms, excellent films indeed. I have observed the Sanscrit in Payhferin three times, and it is remarkable to watch, it moves around the pod so you can get good views of it and watch its behaviour for quite some time.

Unvin in the Neghalin Pod is harder to observe at least it was for me, it stomped about and made huge foot sounds at first and then walked back and forth in front of the main mid level window. After I observed it for a while, i just glanced up to the upper right window behind me, if you are standing watching out that big mid window, and saw movement in the tree to the rigtht of that upper window. I ran up there and there was a monkey like creature climbing about, it was and is very nimble and quick in its movements, like a spider monkey and seems prehensile at least its tail appeared to grip and help it balance in the trees as it moved. It ran off and i saw it higher up and at a greater distance for a bit and then it vanished. I have only seen that creature once, that one time. These movies by Greypiffle are great to watch.

Thank you G.F.!!! These videos are great! I would probably have never seen these animals if it wasn't for your good thinking to record them. Other than CrisGer, who has 2 hours (if you are lucky) in their day to sit and wait in a pod for them to show.

Does anyone know of a schedule or calculator (like the one for when the glowing symbol shows up in the pods) for when these animals show themselves in the pods?

Unfortunately, the animal appearances are on a random timer. There is no way (now, meaning there used to be a way but Cyan disabled this ability) to predict when the Panuhdoy or Urwin in Negialhn, and the Sandscrit in Payiferen will appear. The Panuhdoy (tree monkey) has been found to appear from 1-5 times each day but have the shortest appearance time of all the animals and randomly is visible only in one of 3 different windows each visit. This makes it very difficult to catch the little chitterer. I have found that the Urwin and Sanscrit can appear up to 4 times each day but the visits are longer, giving you a chance to run to another window when you hear the thump-thump of their footsteps. The animals only appear during daylight hours. I know of no instance where they appear after local sunset.

There are some more videos of the animals in the GOG walkthrough for the Pod Ages.

To build on the animal appearances -

The monkey only appears in the top left window, if you are facing the central window. The Urwin always appears in the top right window, moves across the central window the left hand windows (better seen from the top rather than the bottom left, but can be seen from both), then reverses course and moves across the central window back to the top right. It typically pauses for photo ops while out to the left, and on it's return trip across the central window; sometimes it'll pause in other spots too.

Thanks for the vidoes, GP, would you mind if I linked them on the DZS page? I've been trying to get those guys to make vidoes for posterity, but so far nobody has stepped up to do it...

I've been trying to make as much video of the content that is not in Uru:CC as I can. I've been having bad luck with the animals, though, despite the many, many hours I've spent waiting over the last week. Sunday I waited for 3 hours in Payiferen. A sandscrit showed up, but, just as I started to film, my KI, which had been quiet until then, exploded with hood chat. (My bad for not using one of my "safe" camera avvies.) The monkeys have never stayed for more than a couple of seconds, and I am in awe of the length of time Greypiffle was able to film. I have some wonderful film of urwin animation bugs, both getting frozen and running through its pattern as if it is on roller skates. One of those bugs happens to me about 95% of urwin sightings, so I haven't got any unbugged appearances on film yet. (I would submit the films I have as bug reports, but I suppose that's kind of pointless now.) But, I plan to keep trying for as long as it takes to get good film of all of them.

I would like to know which of you is right about the monkey. Rils says "only top left window", while Johnsojc says "one of three windows". I've only seen it in the top left, myself.

@dthurner: You have a strange idea of having fun. Wink Needing to wait for hours on end listening to mind-numbing ambient sounds -- especially the fluting sounds in Negilahn, which drive me nuts after 10 minutes -- while staring at unchanging scenery. Fun. Right. I wonder if anyone at Cyan has ever "played" these pods the way we have to? I can't help thinking that if, say, Rand spent 3 or 4 hours looking out a pod window without seeing anything but blowing dust or falling leaves, he would long since have said "WHAT were we THINKING to offer this to our customers as a way of having fun?" At least Shroomie shows up a fair percentage of the time, and it only takes a minute or two to find out if she's going to show up at all.

Thanks for posting those videos, greypiffle. I never saw the monkey or Urwin. Cool!

OK, there are two main window appearances. The top left window sequence has the tree monkey running up a tree to the far left of the middle mid-deck window and hangs around 35 seconds or so in the top left window and then runs down another tree branch and can briefly be seen again in the middle window on the way down, The top right window has the best view and longest view time and the monkey jumps right at you so (if you are very quick and very lucky) you can get a screen capture like the one in the above mentioned GOG Walkthrough. Both sequences are shown in the GOG video. I spent 6 weeks working on learning all this and capturing the video.

The video shows the upper right window first, then the upper left window sequence of the middle window (going up), the upper left window, and finally the middle window again (coming down).

Agreed, the tree monkey creature does appear in the upper window fairly close, as per picture below, I will include other pics so people can see these remarkable creatures in action, though Greypiffle's vids really do give the best sense of them. The posture and structure of the large flightless (we may presume) bird like creature from the Payhferin Pod is quite remarkable, i would not want to meet that being outside the pod Smile

It took me a year of field observations to gather these images and my other field notes of these and other life forms in the other Ages and areas including the large avian species in Gira, the fish like forms there as well, the 'fireflies" also in Gira, the avians in the Cleft, and more. It was a lot of fun, the anticipation and the wondering, I did not find some of the creatures or look at them in detail for a long time, and it was really intriguing...and still is. Smile

The Fun may not be in the waiting for something exciting and/or unique to happen. The Fun can be found in the antsy anticipation and in the final payoff at the end of a very long wait!

We should always seek to HAVE FUN!!! And I hope those who do...find it!

Hey I want to see;

1. Shroomie up close and personal and inside the gate you lower in Teledahn!

2. To actualy see the huge sabertoothed sounding beast you hear in Gareseen
while crossing over to the 2nd building.

3. I want to see the two tailed monkey actualy hop down through the crack in the top of the pod
and cling to the vines that are also growing into the crack, have it hop about the pod for a while
and if you are real still maybe just maybe it will hop onto your sholder and lick your face! Laughing

CrisGer, you are a true naturalist. RL nature is as unpredictable as any in the cavern, and requires much patience to catch even a glimpse of many creatures in their native habitat. Great work!

BrettM, I sympathize with you; I can't spend more than just a few minutes in any of the pods. May I introduce you to my eternally optimistic hoodmate, dthurner? Perhaps you two should get together and maybe you can recruit him as an intern; teach him to use Fraps and let him stake out the pods, too? Wink

Smile Thanks Tai, in RL i cut my teeth on field work in invertibrate and vertibrate entymology, marine biology, birds of prey and birds preyed upon, and all..... and spent my summers, weekends and afternoons chasing or watching more species in more habitats that i can now recall, but it was such fun and so interesting. So it was wonderful to find realitic ecologies here in MOUL.

I can try for Shroomie, i am afraid we will never see Gary in Gahreesen, at least I have not had any luck with him/her other than some remarkable "I am VERY hungry" call recordings Smile, and that speedy monkey like critter IN the pod, wow, that is a tall order Smile maybe it likes banannas. Smile
