Actually, I don't remember GD having any swords. It is BobZ who has the pirate swords that you have to look out for. Even though they are plastic and say "Harrrr" when you press the button.

I always read the forums with a huge sword in my hand.

Currently in the city waiting for my closeup.

Chogon,
Thanks for your post.

But at the moment Cyan can't do anything different until the agreement with GameTap has changed or expires.

Can you let us know what the current expiry date for the contract is?
(I know you couldn't comment about changing the contract.)

Thanks,
Zen

I'm gonna guess no... that seems to be part of said contract, that there's NDA over the details of it. This is standard stuff for Cyan after all.. same as with every other contract.

On the plus side, we can be reassured that as soon as they have an answer they can give, for better or worse, they'll give it to us. We wondered why they didn't talk after Season 1.. turned out cause they were in negotiations the whole way until the end when they finally came to a conclusion. They told us immediately after (give or take a weekend). Cyan knows we're waiting on the edge of our seat.. and as soon as they can, they will tell us to fix that.

Course knowing they'll let us know ASAP doesn't make the wait any easier, but it's still nice to know they care enough to let us know immediately.

ONe thing I really don't get is why GT wants to maintain the contract in the first place. It's not like they're deriving any benefit from it at this point. Nor does it seem that they're planning some future exploitation of MOUL in some other way.

Someone used a good old fashioned expression for it here, but I forget what it was. Basically, it means keeping something you can't use for yourself to spite others. But because Cyan seems to get along with GameTap, as they did with Ubisoft, the business term might simply be "keeping your options open."

FYI - the expression is "dog in a manger". It's derived from an Aesop fable about a dog that is curled up in a manger and keeping the cows from approaching and eating the hay. But I sort of agree with you JWP that in this case GT may just be "keeping their options open". At least - I'm trying to give them the benifit of the doubt. Rolling Eyes

@ Erik and MustardJeep - so that is what Graydragon looks like! Hmmm.....somehow I always pictured him as older - with gray hair. Laughing Course - considering what he has to put up with as Community Manager - I'm supprised it isn't totally white! Shocked

@ Chogon - thank you very much for keeping us informed and explaining things. Your post is greatly appreciated. Here is hoping Graydragon returns from his vacation rested, refreshed, and willing to take his job back. Cool

Grr.

For the legally-naiive among us (i.e. me Razz), could someone in the know explain what exactly the point of including a clause banning the disclosure of something as simple as the contract's expiry date is?

When the competition knows your secrets, the competition can plan targeted strategies to take advantages you don't want them taking at your expense. It's a necessary cynical protection against human natures which manifest as a mob mentality in the corporate environment when no single individual is completely responsible for its ethical and honorable behavior. But I digress. Wink
