Five seconds? It's stickied at the top of the forum, it should have only taken two seconds.
Now, why didn't I think to link to it? Ah, a question for the ages.
As for the word "canon" and its all-to-common misspelling as cannon, I think that it's more than a typo. People don't usually "hear" it. By and large, people are introduced (or more often, re-introduced) to the word via nerd forums like this one, or ones for Star Trek or other scifi/fantasy things. And they rarely see the conjugation "canonical," first, or... really, ever, because most people, even those who know the word "canon," don't know that *that* is a word.
However, anyone who has taken middle school English should know the word and the concept of "canon" from its use in the concepts of "literary canon," "Shakespearean canon" or "biblical canon." These same people, when they re-learn the word in relation to a modern fictional universe, often don't realize that it's the same word! And anyone who didn't learn the word in English class (or, rather, forgot it) but takes the time to familiarize themselves with the concept via online research should, frankly, know exactly how it's spelled.
This isn't true of most words, but misspelling "canon" is a sign that the concept behind the word is likely not fully understood.
I don't mean to pick on Ancient Player, because his misspelling of the word could have been for any number of reasons, but the fact that RAWA addressed this very point at the top of perhaps the most popular thread of the past month is a bit telling (
although he certainly could just have, and very likely, simply missed it, sorry, man). And I also don't want to imply that correct spelling is at all important on a web forum. But there's a difference between misspelling and misunderstanding.
Rant over.

(man, work is boring today)
