Yep. Now would be the right time for an update, making it a month between updates.

C'mon Chogon, we can see you're there, time for you to come out and play! er, come out and say! that is. Very Happy

Well, at least we know their iMyst project is going nicely. However, we *still* need the REAL thing: RIVEN. Why do we have 20 ports of Myst on all platforms and designs, but nothing of Riven to make it fully XP/Vista compatible without needing some esoteric version of Quicktime that refuses to cooperate with existing stuf (like quicktime alternative)?

Anyone here know how tough it'd be to make a wrapper to convert their mhk-compressed video calls to quicktime to something else off of an included dll, or perhaps a sensible included codec?

Gondar, Riven is XP compatible if you have the 10th anniversary DVD edition, for the longest time I thought it wasn't compatible but found my audio updates prevented it from playing and wasn't the Quicktime players which comes with the game, when I put set my SB Audigy 2ZS sound card back to defaults, Riven started playing perfectly

Ok, so the DVD edition will work in XP. I know about XP... but does it still need an exotic version of quicktime to be installed? Does it need just the codecs or does it need a full install? I am not replacing quicktime after it took so much effort to get the thing *off* in the first place (hence I moved to Quicktime Alternative as I noted).

It also doesn't fix the fault that they still need a few ports of it. Myst is a good game, but Riven is superior.

riven needs QT. more precisly, QT2. Or at least, i never managerd to get it to work with an other QT. Gametap did, it seams. Maybe the aniversary edition have been changed. Anyway, the version on gametap is looking for QT6.

solution one : get the qt files to put inside the riven folder, then, there is a patch that will get riven to look for these file there instead of the windows directory if i remember it right.

solution 2 : let QT put it file in the win directory. QT 2 is not a anoying as the newer version Wink
For QT to install on Xp, the trick is to edit the .ini of the installer, and tells it not to look for other qt version. ( CheckExistingVersions=0 instead of CheckExistingVersions=1 )

And an other might be usefull link : http://www.talkaboutgaming.com/group/alt.games.riven/messages/19827.html

I have a MacIntel running on Leopard (which means none of the Myst games work on it. Sad ), but the DVD versions all work on Boot Camp (with XP - too leery of Vista), even with all the various and sundry QT updates. Oh, and of course Uru: CC.

It would be nice to see all the Myst titles ported to Mac OS 10.5. Sigh.

Anyways, thanks for the update, Chogon! Please, take your time and get everything right!

Um, I don't have PayPal, so I really hope the credit card version will be still be available.

One last thing: will it be possible to have sub-accounts or something similar? With multiple computers, it's always fun to meet myself! Hee hee.

You do not need to have a PayPal account. You can pay through PayPal directly using your credit card.

Sub-accounts were a GameTap thing. I plan to buy 2 MORE accounts anyway.

Edit: and here is the quote:

Quote:

[Jen] When we get an account, can we have multiple users or will it be one user per account? With gametap, 1 account had up to 5 users, and each user could have multiple avatars. Will that change?
[Chogon] It will be one user per account with (was it?) 5 avatars. That is the way we are going to start. It might change in the future? Don't know.

I hope we don't use PayPal... I had a fallout financially with PayPal and now they refuse to even honor an anonymous purchase from my bank card (which is perfectly fine) because the billing address matches the one for my old line of credit.

Cyan please use something less "evil" like Google Checkout ;P

Cyan wants to provide the best worldwide coverage possible and PayPal, despite its problems, does that.

Well I guess I will be left out of UrU then... because I don't think Cyan wants me mailing them a check every pay period. Rolling Eyes

Hey don't be sad. Chogon said he would look into the idea of gift accounts. So we will "give" you an account one way or another.

Idea

Personally, I consider anything Google to be the "evil" options.

I've used Paypal for all my online purchasing (where it's supported) - with absolutely no problem Razz
