Apologies if this has been reported before.
1. Go into the elevator and go to the top floor. (not sure if this step is necessary).
2. Get back into the elevator and click on the timer, but do not get out in time.
3. Click to get back up to the top floor, step out and turn around.
The elevator is mysteriously at mid-level and you can access the controls. This actually makes the game easier, but it spoils the puzzle and doesn't make any sense. Everything else in Myst makes perfect sense both logically and mechanically, so I assume this must be a bug.
