Hi there

Thanks for porting one of the best games ever, i am looking forward to Riven and the others !

On the first island, ind the litte house with the boiler and the safe, i have figured out the safe key and i can open it.
But i can not take the contens out of the safe Sad
Also it is possible to close the safe again and then open it, but after that the game is stuck Sad
The same happens if the safe is open and i turn away (then it closes) i can then turn around and open it again, but game will then be stuck again Sad

I am running an iPhone 3g with firmware 3.0Beta4 (trying to do some development myself Wink )

Hope you can fix the error soon, i know i am running a Beta OS, but still help i am not the only one Smile

Try to tap on the match box inside the safe to get a match.

If that really doesn't work, then I guess it's a bug... Cyan mentioned on Twitter that they haven't done anything on firmware 3.0 yet. I do hope you can get around the problem.

Thanks Fotografen for reporting your problem. As Erik mentioned, they have not done much yet with the 3.0 OS but they are looking into it and the problems it brings to Myst. I will put in a report on this and hopefully the information you have provided will help them get a fix for this

I've just come across the same problem on iPhone 3.0 beta 5. I can open the safe with 7, 2, 4 and see the matchbox but can't do anything to strike a match and then have to quit Myst because the game becomes unresponsive Sad

That's pretty much the only bug I've come across so far though.

Testing this bug myself, with the 3.0b5 firmware, I've found that it doesn't just happen at the safe but at other areas as well. It happened when trying to use the Myst book after the beginning movie, and flyover of the island.

What appears to be happening is that the videos are coming to an end, but instead of the game resuming, it sticks on the last frame.

Something to watch to be sure, but nothing to get too excited about at the moment. The beta firmware is (rather) buggy.

Umm.. the normal amount that an iPhone 3G has...? Is that relevant?


Since this is the first time I've played Myst it's pretty hard to tell what's actually a bug and what's just another puzzle to solve Razz

There are iPhones with 8GB and also 16GB it makes a difference at times, but it is just mostly general info.

Ohh you mean capacity. I thought you were talking about the RAM. Mine's 16GB.

Just wanted to confirm with everyone that I've experienced the exact same issues with the game locking up. I know that some of these issues have already been addressed but I just want to post my experience.

I am running iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5.

The first place I noticed was when the very first book opened up (as said earlier) before the game even begins. Then, it has happened a few random places since, but simply restarting the app seemed to fix it.

The frustration really kicked in when I got to the safe (one with the matchbox inside). My game locks up every single time the 3-digit lock safe door opens up. Luckily if you exit and re-enter the safe is open and you can get a match at that point. But if you close and re-open the safe...it's gonna lock-up.

Another thing I've noticed is the sound will cut out in places. One place I noticed was inside the clock tower. There is a 3-digit puzzle inside with 3 levers. I had the ambient sound of the environment but no sound effects for the puzzle - levers pulling and gear sounds were absent. Again, restarting the app fixed it immediately. This has happened numerous other places.

I had searched Google extensively with no luck before I discovered these forums (straight from the help link inside the game of all places lol) and am hoping these issues are addressed soon. Does OS 3.0 beta seem to be the culprit here? Anybody experiencing these issues on OS 2.2.1?

Yes, it's a problem with the 3.0 firmware. I've tried the game using both the 3.0b5 and 2.2.1 firmwares, and have only seen the issue using 3.0

The method you mentioned (leaving the game, then returning to unlock it) will work, and the game can be completed using the 3.0 firmware.

I didn't notice the sound cutting out with the gear puzzle however.

It was only one time with that specific puzzle. However, it has happened numerous times in various other places. The bug/glitch hasn't happened in the same place twice for me...not yet at least.

These problems are only being reported with the 3.0 beta firmware, which from what I understand, is still quite buggy in itself. I have not been able to reproduce it at all with the 2.2 OS
