Has anyone tried to set-up and play a mini-live version of Uru using a Local Area Network? No internet connection should be necessary if it's a small home/office system. Uru CC might have this capability but I have not seen it discussed anywhere. Any thoughts?

@DES
Such topics are sorta banned in this forum. I think the above posters are trying to answer your question in a sly fashion. 8)
I believe such questions that skirt the boundries of this forum may be asked openly at http://www.guildofwriters.com

I posed the same question on GoW a while back, but called it Peer to Peer to enable spontaneous (virtual) shards instead of simply a LAN game .

The discussion was eight months before the open source announcement so it had to be confined to GoW. If the same discussion were done in terms of what we might be able to do with open source instead of poking around in the CC code, it should be an entirely acceptable topic (e.g. The Open Source forums here or OpenURU.org).

I really enjoy the idea of an impromptu Cavern which comes into existence when a limited group of people agree to use a certain "book" (temporary IP list) and vanishes when the last person leaves (the "book" is burned).

OK, thanks, I'm new here so don't know about taboos. The Age of Empires mentioned in the Peer to Peer string, and the multi-player feature of The Settlers, is exactly what I was thinking about when I asked the question. I'll check the GOW and perhaps give it a try there.
