I've looked around a bit and haven't seen whether this has been addressed...BOTH my laptops are about shot, I may need to purchase a new one. However, it seems all the new computers have Windows 8 loaded on them. Do we know if Uru will work in Windows 8? Thanks much, I appreciate it.

I don't personally have windows 8, but after I saw this, I asked a buddy of mine who does have Win8 and uses URU on it.

He says, and I quote:

It runs fine on my Windows 8 laptop, but I've only gone to Relto and Er'cana and done my pellet drops. That's the main thing I do in MOULa nowadays. I'll get to some gathering soon when RL allows and I'll see how it performs in other places.

I ran the win 8 relece candidate in a VM (parrallels) on my Mac.
Installed MOULa, Gehn, and Minkata. I had no troubles worth talking about. Everything ran verry well.
Hardest thing was dealing with the new windows UI.

For a Win7 alternative, look online. It's what I did, knowing that I would never want to turn my desktop into an iPad with a mouse and keyboard.

By the way...
I absolutely hate Windows 8. It's very unfriendly to all MYST stuff.

Were it not for the need to re-install all of my programs, especially my cg and working tools (Maya, 3dsMax/with the Plasma plugins for Uru, Premiere, etc..) I would immediately switch back to Windows 7. I will certainly do it next time my system needs re-doing.

In the meantime, in order to restore my productivity --and my sanity-- I have uninstalled all of the windows 8 apps, and after trying many of the new tools to "Windows 7-ize", I am now using 'Ex7forW8', which works exactly right for me.

Has anyone else encountered the theory that every other Windows OS is good, and the others are bad? I.e. XP - good, Vista - bad, Win 7 - good, Win 8 - bad.

Some friends of mine said this to me many years ago, and I've yet to see a Windows OS that contradicts this.

Still thinks that Myst V should be remade into a new journey in MO:ULa /opinion

Everyone dumps on Vista, but I never had trouble with it. I had a desktop and a laptop with Vista, and even though I had received a Windows 7 upgrade for the desktop because I got it just before 7 came out, I never bothered to install it. The only thing I disliked about Vista was turning it off. What looked like the shut down button was really restart.
