Yes, one of the patches is not working. I thought I had fixed it, but it seems I didn't get the right version.

I'll update the link with a fixed version.

EDIT: Updated with a (hopefully) working set of patches Smile

Hi there, I used Paradox's intructions and managed to get URU running under wine 1.1.39 Ubuntu 9.10. The cursor works perfectly, and sound is acceptable (just a few clicks). However, I can't send IM to other players. I can type a line of text, but pressing the enter (or return) key has no effect. I've tried both enter keys, several combinations of ctrl, shift and alt with enter, all to no avail. If I write a message using the full KI (ie a mail rather than IM), the enter key works as normal. Has anyone else seen this kind of behaviour? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks

<UPDATE>

Hah, it does work, but only if I hold the enter key down for around a second! This is rather bizarre, and as I mention above, it doesn't happen when edditing KiMail, only IM. Has no one else experienced this?

<UPDATE TO THE UPDATE>

I say a second, but it seems to be rather random. It was taking around a second in Relto, but after moving round a bit, it started taking a lot longer, anywhere between 3-30s. Indeed, sometimes possibly a lot longer, as I ran out of patience if it took more than 30s or so!

Weirdly, it partly works sometimes if NumLock is on when you start the patcher, and you turn off before going in.

Now to remember to turn NumLock off *before* hitting the shortcut! Very Happy

I haven't patched Wine, but I don't really care about the cursor not being messed up.

However, when I try to run UruLauncher... it crashes with the following output (while attempting to draw the initial patcher window):

Code:

I'm not exactly sure what's going on here... Any ideas? (in case it matters, I downloaded one of the mirrored installers).

ETA: I realized I have a somewhat old version of Wine and am updating to see if that helps.

ETA2: Yep, it turns out the patcher runs fine on current Wine rather than Wine 1.0.1 Very Happy

I use it so i can rapidly log in..then quick strike the key. The downside in my case, is that i don't have an indicator on the keyboard, and the software with the indicators is Windows only.

Thanks for the help. but it still doesn't seem to work for me (the cursor that is, the game itself works just fine). Sad
I'm rather new with Linux... is there something I could be missing?

Did you run the patches in the right order?

There is a series file inside the dibeng zip that gives the order of the patches that you apply. (is there an auto magical way to apply these btw?)

Finally before you start the compile, you need to run autoconf to rebuild the configure file to get the dib engine to be referenced.

Hope this helps

I've followed the guide very carefully, so yes, I installed all the patches in the same order as they're listed in series file.

But could the problem be that I decided to finish the patching/compile back when one of the patches didn't work? I've redone the procedure with the right patches now but could there be some old files left that messes up the new ones?

That seems to sound like the problem!

You need to put source back to the original version that came from the tarball before you re-apply new patches, then give the compile another go.

Hope it goes well!

Aha! Yes I did, or rather I didn't turn it off. If I DO turn it off, pressing the enter key works fine when I'm writing an IM. I am left wondering why numlock has this effect, however! Confused

Thanks for the help

I've setup a ppa for Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) with the patched wine in it if anyone is interested. Instead of patching yourself, or adding

Code:

ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
use

Code:

ppa:vongrippen/ppa
. Then, just continue with Paradox's tutorial. Then, to run with the DIB engine turned on, either use

Code:

export WINEDIB=ON
or add the

Code:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\DIB Engine\Enable = Y
registry key.
