I have wanted a KI for my iPhone since I got one when they first came
out. It seems really obvious to me really..

iPhones (or androids, etc) really are our real world version of a KI.
It could be as simple as a way to chat with people in game even when
you're really in the doctors waiting room. Or you could go all out
with it and throw in some Augmented Reality stuff and could have real
world Marker Games!

Age info and invites could be sent from the interface. Maybe even
hook in the mystonline forums to the app. Use push notifications to
invite people to come play with you.

Not to mention that in the future if there are to be fan run servers
again it'd be great to be able to admin them from your iPhone. I
would have killed (not really) for such a thing back when I ran an
Until Uru shard.

Any other suggestions?

That's an awesome idea. Definitely achievable once the source is released. I'd be interested in working on a version for Android.

The main question would be how to link the app to the game space without a huge 3D engine or an avatar. Markers are one idea, for example, placing a marker in the game and seeing who's standing near it on the app. There's also the imagers. You could even send KI pictures to the app directly. There's a lot of cool features that could work "transmission from the surface" style.

Purely academic, pie-in-the-sky ranting: Ages are more or less a known quantity. It may be possible to create some kind of bizarre limited representation of the game itself in the app, say with a 2D top-down view and recontructed vector maps, or building lists of node locations and programming a bot avatar to run between them and representing them Myst-style on the app with screenshots and rough 3D overlay of other avatars... but that all sounds like a lot of work.

"SurfaceKI"?

There was a similar discussion here: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19378.

"Surface KI" is very possible.

I feel being able to chat with players in Age chat or actually enter the game in any graphical sense would go too far. However, sending private/buddy/neighbors/whathaveyou messages, KI mail, pictures etc. seems like a great idea! Basically, in my opinion, stick to what an actual KI would be able to do if you took it to the surface (assuming it got a lattice connection etc).

I'd buy an iPhone for that Razz

I can see where the chat could get confusing. Maybe if you could just send private messages, in a different color or something, with a little disclaimer thing...
