Post Posted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:20 pm — Post subject: MOULa 3ds max plugin binaries available

Another micro-step:
We are releasing the binaries for the MOULagain 3ds Max version 7 plugins.
You can get them at http://cho.cyan.com/bahrowings/MOULaPlugins871.zip

Also, here is some (somewhat lame) documentation http://cho.cyan.com/bahrowings/PlasmaPlugins.doc. Some of it is very early Uru development and some of it is from MYST V. Sorry, hopefully someone can help untangle it.

These are as-is and will only (as far as I know) work with 3ds Max verison 7. Please read the ReadMe.txt file included. And please only use these plugins with legal versions of 3ds Max.

This is just one more small step with a *lot* more to come. I am hoping to find some of the plugin documentation albeit outdated and make that available. And we are working on getting the source for these plugins so people can try to create plugins for other 3D modeling software.
Also, we are working on ways to test the output from these files.

Enjoy,
Chogon

Edited to add link to plugin doc.

Another OS baby step! That's great news and cause for more cautious optimism (tm).

A baby step perhaps, but it's certainly a lot along the way Chogon! Thanks!

Now, to find a way to get 3ds Max 7... Very Happy

OMG AHHHH SQUEEE!

I will have to try it out and see if they work with 3DS Max 8. I hope so! *crosses fingers*

(And for the record, 'cause someone over on the GoW forum made sideways looks at me for having a copy of 3DS Max, I will note that my copy is legitimate, thank you very much -- one of my stints in college involved 3D animation.)

I actually like Sketchup too, some versions of it will allow you to convert your Sketchup model to 3DS files. . .maybe you have one of those Smile and hopefully that could work with this plug in? . . .not sure

the latest (free) version of Sketchup 7 has full Collada Support and there's a few Ruby addons (Ruby's work with both paid and free) that will export to OBJ, LWO... I steer clear of 3DS format tho.. it's limitations are to binding compared to OBJ or Collada...

Wouldn't mind a plug-in version for C4D and Carrara ... now that I could use.

Hmm... I have a version of Max 7 and I get the following error on startup:

Loading DLLs

DLL <C:\3dsmax7\plugins\PlasmaMax.gup> failed to initialize.
Error code: 126 - The specified module could not be found.

Any idea of what may be causing that ?

It is probably looking for some of the other .dlls that it needs. Theoretically, they should be in the main directory of where you installed MOULagain (binkw32.dll, Nx*.dll, OpenAL32.dll and maybe others). So, you can change your path to include that directory or copy them to somewhere in your path.
