That one came from the site of Mark Engberg, and architect hired by Cyan to design the D'ni city

I've already answered my own question, by the way: the map I posted is simply a zoomed-in/more detailed view of the central area of Eric's map. I'll try to make something in paint to show it more clearly, but it's easy enough to notice

It looks more consolidated than zoomed in. Like they took the first map and smushed it all together.

And I looked at Engberg's site. Very interesting stuff.

Wow! I hadn't seen a lot of the images on Mark Engberg's site before...

I put them all in a directory here for people who don't want to have to search for/through his site.

I'm 100% sure that it's simply a closer look at one section of the map. In the following image, I've tried to delimitate this section in red:

To further prove this, I offer the following two images, which are a (crappy, made in paint) comparison between the map posted by eaa and the map found in Engberg's site (same color means same building/feature):

Hmmm I'm starting to think some of these models are from Mudpie/DIRT

Hmm...Perhaps the area in detail IS City Center, and the areas to the left or right are seperate districts that woul be made later.

So what do you guys think is going on in this picture?

Are those some sort of machines shooting out energy beams? With the energy gathering in a large organic-looking ball? For what purpose?
What is the scale of it all? Are those a lot of buildings in the middle, comparable to the maps we saw earlier? But there in the lower left corner, are those stairs?
What is the orange thing at the top? Why does the orange beam coming from it/going to it seem to pass through two tunnels in the nothing, on its way to the large ball?
Is there a passage in the rock to the right? Are there faint lines of more stairs visisble? Is the square outlined in the middle a room, where the energy beams can be controlled?

Looks like a canal, or at least a water channel. Water's coming in from the lake, going through a channel with two footbridges over it na down into a resivior maybe and pumped in different directions.

I figured it was some vast rock sculpture.

Yeah, that ball is very strange indeed... I simply cannot make out what it is supposed to represent Sad

Well, here is the thread were I originally posted the link to these images; I've posted my analysis of the small captions, and there's some speculation over there as well. And there's also Engberg's personal invite: he'll gladly show the originals to anyone who shows up at their offices in Portland! Very Happy (Any volunteers?)

If Zrax still hasn't gone, I volunteer myself...

Should probably email/call ahead first.

Congratulations, you've been selected for this mission!

You can find contact info here:

http://www.colabarchitecture.com/colabprofile-contact.html

I also happen to have Mark Engberg's work email (the one they provide at the website is a generic contact email), I can give it to you... this way you can mention his offer and set things up more personally

Yeah, if you could PM me his email that would be great. I don't want to end up playing phone tag or something trying to reach him from the contact page.
