Post Posted: Sat Jul 10, 2010 5:36 pm — Post subject: BOMB in the City!!! Help us deactivate it!!!

I was in the city and OHB's Arch-Nemesis just showed up with a bomb and he's activated it! Unless we can figure out how to disarm it - well, I don't want to imagine the consequences...

Anyway, OHB managed to send out a KI Mail which has the deactivation sequence on it...but it's in some soft of code. I've transcribed it here...I'm hoping we can use this thread to consolodate our efforts to crack the code and get the bomb deactivated as soon as possible.

BOMB DEACTIVATION SEQUENCE

Hey, I'm trapped on my arch-nemesis' relto. The moment I arrived one his henchmen grabbed me, took my Relto book, locked me in a cage, and linked out! Conveniently he didn't take my KI. How cliche is this?

Anyway, on the floor there's a BUNCH of papers with diagrams. The only really useful thing I've found so far is a scrap of paper with "deactivation sequence" written on it, followed by this:

Code:

3\2!1}251(3{2!201(3}2!211(402!3{3(201(422!4}48
4!431%1%3\3(3}1^1[4[1^4}1(432!4}4%454)1%1%3\3(
3}1^1[4[1^4}1(442!4}3}4!4%1%1%3\3(3}1^1[4[1^4}
1(462!1%423{1*43411*441%3\3(401^1^1&1%3\3(3}1^
1&201(472!454)4^1%461^1@1%1}1{1{1{1&1%3}3(201^
1^1(3}4!40412!471*1%3{3(1}1{1^1[1%3\1*3}1*401^

I can't make any sense of this. Any ideas? Send this to everyone you know...I can't crack this without a computer! We need some serious help!!!

Why don't you just let the poor thing count down to zero... remember... NOTHING was supposed to happen today.

So... aside from poking the bomb, anyone got ideas? I count twelve symbols and nine digits:

\ ! } ( { % ^ [ ) * & @

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Those of you with an American keyboard, since this 'can't be solved without a computer', does the symbol's positioning mean anything? I was thinking that maybe the symbols stand for digits and the digits for mathematic symbols, but there's too many of both... Confused

The digits are either single between symbols or triple (or 'fiftuple'), never even. And that's all I can see for now...

Hello? Ignoring the little drama, did anyone notice that OHB created an AI-controlled interactive NPC that works in MOULa?

It's too bad when last I checked it had crashed out of the game (or at least stopped working). Since the city was full (50 people) it might have a bit of hastle to get back in.

Some thinks the D'ni font's numbers has something to do with it... dunno what, though.

Translating the code into D'ni font numerals. My progress (3 lines right now):

3|\|2|11|1|24|2|5|1|19|3|23|2|11|2|10|1|19|3|24|2|11|2|1|1|19|4|10|2|11|3|23|3|19|2|10|1|19|4|2|2|11|4|24|4|8
4|11|4|3|1|15|1|15|3|\|3|19|3|24|1|16|1|21|4|21|1|16|4|24|1|19|4|3|2|11|4|24|4|3|4|5|4|20|1|15|1|15|3|\|3|19
3|24|1|16|1|21|4|21|1|16|4|24|1|19|4|4|2|11|4|24|3|24|4|11|4|15|1|15|1|15|3|\|3|19|3|24|1|16|1|21|4|21|1|16|4|24

The \ characters don't convert in my font. Perhaps they signify a "bunch" on numbers we need to do something with. Or perhaps it turns into letters and the \ mean spaces between words.

This post will be edited as I progress.

Whilyam, some D'ni characters are accented, maybe that's what they represent?

Pfft, since when has the population cap actually stopped anyone from getting into Ae'gura? Wink

Okay, if the characters are interpreted as is the D'ni font (because they all are valid characters), we get this semi-decoded bunch of numbers. Now what?

Code:

3 24 2 11 1 23 2 5 1 19 3 22 2 11 2 0 1 19 3 23 2 11 2 1 1 19 4 0 2 11 3 22 3 19 2 0 1 19 4 2 2 11 4 23 4 8
4 11 4 3 1 15 1 15 3 24 3 19 3 23 1 16 1 20 4 20 1 16 4 23 1 19 4 3 2 11 4 23 4 15 4 5 4 10 1 15 1 15 3 24 3 19
3 23 1 16 1 20 4 20 1 16 4 23 1 19 4 4 2 11 4 23 3 23 4 11 4 15 1 15 1 15 3 24 3 19 3 23 1 16 1 20 4 20 1 16 4 23
1 19 4 6 2 11 1 15 4 2 3 22 1 18 4 3 4 1 1 18 4 4 1 15 3 24 3 19 4 0 1 16 1 16 1 17 1 15 3 24 3 19 3 23 1 16
1 17 2 0 1 19 4 7 2 11 4 5 4 10 4 16 1 15 4 6 1 16 1 12 1 15 1 23 1 22 1 22 1 22 1 17 1 15 3 23 3 19 2 0 1 16

Use Dnifont to interpret the message as D’ni numbers, then take each pair of numerals as a two-digit D’ni number and interpret as ASCII. That gives you
a=17,b=2,c=3,d=b^2,f=|log((a^c)-x)|,g=|sin((a^c)-x)|,f=|cos((a^c)-x)|,j=(fb+ge+h(a^d))*(a^c)*2,k=int(j)%(1000*(c^2)),code=k+(b^10)-(a+c+d)
The problems is that there are some errors in that: function h is not defined (probably the second definition of f should be h) and variable e is not defined.

I’ve tried substituting a to d for e and arrived at
1057, 6636, 3368, 9868
but telling those to the bomb didn’t achieve anything. Confused

That's not quite accurate--This is what I got with the Official Cyan D'ni font:

Code:
