OHB

Missed your event, just caught the tip end. What did the PM message translate out to say? I never did find out.

Thank you for your hard work

Bismuth, it was Allan's number that finally turned the BOMB off.

It was 4375. =)

---

Here's how it was solved.

Code:

3\2!1}251(3{2!201(3}2!211(402!3{3(201(422!4}48
4!431%1%3\3(3}1^1[4[1^4}1(432!4}4%454)1%1%3\3(
3}1^1[4[1^4}1(442!4}3}4!4%1%1%3\3(3}1^1[4[1^4}
1(462!1%423{1*43411*441%3\3(401^1^1&1%3\3(3}1^
1&201(472!454)4^1%461^1@1%1}1{1{1{1&1%3}3(201^
1^1(3}4!40412!471*1%3{3(1}1{1^1[1%3\1*3}1*401^

Which gives you this...

Quote:

a=17
b=2
c=3
d=b^2
f=|log((a^c)-x)|
g=|sin((a^c)-x)|
h=|cos((a^c)-x)|
j=(fb+ge+h(a^d))*(a^c)*2
k=int(j)%(1000*(c^2))
code=k+(b^10)-(a+c+d)

By... Converting to D'ni numbers with...

http://www.fadedtwilight.org/DniDictionary/numbers.htm

then you convert the numbers to ASCII.

Plug in E into the formulas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_(mathematical_constant)

and...

plug in: x = position of countdown

And there you go.

Dhel posted an awesome video of the BOMB in action!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJPx217gCl8

I must say the quality is excellent and it sounds great with EAX! I wish I could have heard it. I had voice off the entire time so never even heard it working!

Massygo also posted a video but incorrectly labeled it as BabelBot hehe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D14I_ZaOYMQ

If you made any video recordings, please upload them to YouTube and share the links! I know there's a lot of people who missed out and would love to see what it looked like Smile

Now that is so much better now as I never got that close to hear Mr BOMB talk. Very funny better than reading the dialogue as you miss the emotion. Thanks for posting this OHB and thanks for filming this Dhel and Massygo.

Starship Titanic I remember it well. Very Happy

Is that you talking, OHB, or who's voice was it? I asked this on the other thread but guess I was put on /ignore/ there Laughing
It was brilliant.

If you're referring to the bomb, I believe it was John Cleese's voice.

I'll have to get my snippet of the "pre-11" time on Youtube.

Yes it is John Cleese's voice and if I am not mistaken it was taken from the Starship Titanic game. Which I think was mentioned on the night.

Like I stated in another thread...my "event" didn't happen anything like I expected it to. Here's what I thought would happen:

1. We'd do our little skit, the bomb would be activated, and we'd all leave. And all that would take 10-15 minutes. (It took 20)
2. The bomb would be there for the next few days...just sitting there while people randomly walk past poking it or talking to it go to a humorous reply.
3. Some enterprising people would take time to solve it (via the forums) and a few days later they'd be successful in deactivating it.

Thanks for all the analysis, here and in other threads, OHB! Great to hear some of the background. This was really an interesting experiment.

It didn’t work that way for me, because the ticking bomb gave me a sense of urgency (IC) that didn’t allow me to divert my attention from the puzzle and go and do something else for a while (except such basic necessities as sleep). I suspect other puzzlers felt the same way.

One thing I still don’t understand – why the insistence on staying away from the bomb and not saying its name? Occasionally resetting the countdown of a time bomb seemed like a good thing to me. I eventually figured it was just because people wanted to see what would happen when the count reached zero, but seeing as at least part of it was instigated by you – was there a technical reason for that?

No technical reason at all. I kinda just wanted to see how much self-control the crowd had. Smile I had considered taking the bomb offline for a second time for a moment to disable the resetting when you were standing close...that way all you had to do was not touch it or talk to it...but I never got around to it. That and Megan started a campaign of "let's see what happens if we all stand on the stairs!" In the end it gave people something to do. They could watch and observe. Prevent others from going near it, etc. There are a few aspects of the whole thing that if I had remotely considered would have probably precluded me from doing the event at all...or at the very least I would have made a lot of changes. If I do another event, hopefully I will be able to take the lessons learned and apply them so future events run smoother.

I think there are a lot of lessons that can be learned from an event like this. I look forward to seeing more events like this in the future.
