how exactly are these classes going to work (how often do they meet, what is the expected goals, do i need to know every single detail about a subject to teach it) ?

is it too late to add a class to the curriculum ?

Excellent choices here. I'd definitely be interested in teaching some. As you can see, my specialty is early D'ni history, politics, and culture from Garternay to the end of Age of Kings, with a good bit of knowledge covering all of D'ni history and politics.

Classes that are my specialty that I would very much like to teach:

Culture 101: The many cultures of D'ni
History 201: Welcome to Garternay
History 202: The move to Earth
History 203: The last king
Politics 201: The actions of the kings in depth
Politics 202: The councils and guilds in depth

Classes I am quite capable of teaching, if no other teachers can be found:

History 101: Who were the D'ni?
Unknown 101: Yeesha and the Bahro
History 102: Stranger in strange lands - The story of MYST in depth
History 103: The tyrant - The story of Riven in depth
Study group 201: Intro to the book of Atrus
Culture 201: The life of the poor
Archeology 201: Important construction from the era of kings
Study Group 201: The Hall of Kings, and Kings stories
Culture 202: The life of the rich
Archeology 202: Important construction from the era of the councils
History 204: The writing on the wall - Why D'ni fell
Study group 202: The fall of D'ni - (The book of Ti'anna)
Archeology 301: Remains to be seen - D'ni after the fall
Study group 301: The book of D'ni
Unknown 401: Enter the grower - Yeesha
Unknown 402: Creatures of the night - The Bahro

Possible elective classes I could teach:

To the Surface - Theories of D'ni interaction with surface cultures
The Religion of D'ni

Info from the meeting...

* if you take a class you can make your own lesson on it... each class will only have one session, so only prepare whatever you feel you can cover in the 40 minutes each class will have (each class will then have 20 minutes for a small Q&A session before the next class begins)

* each class will be done TWICE (for the people abroad who cant catch afternoon classes) so we may need 2 teachers for some of them (if you cant deal with covering 2 time zones) the start times for the classes have yet to be set

* there will be 6-8 classes every weekend (half on Saturday, half on Sunday)... the only classes that will bleed into the week itself are the study groups and journalography classes

* at some point this week i will hold a meeting for all teachers interested in covering a class, but for the meantime i just want an idea of which subjects will have an instructor and which ones do not

* I am in desperate need of a reader for the MYST books and journals, as well as an instructor for the D'ni language classes

hm, well as interested in this idea as i am, i am unfortunately not sufficiently knowledgeable about the topics on that list. if a topic could be added however i would greatly enjoy lecturing on age design. discussing teledahn's sun, the final area of ahnonay, perhaps also the rotating buildings of gahreesen. perhaps minkata and its oddly still suns....

Mother of mercy, I have enough trouble with University as it is, the last thing I want is to start taking classes in a game.

This sounds awesome, can't wait to attend the classes Smile

It looks like the plan is to fit twelve 40-minute lessons into a weekend? That's 4 hours per day? Sounds a bit long for one day, perhaps. Well, we'll see Smile

Also, I know a thing or two about D'ni language and could easily gather some more knowledge on it to create lessons about it. So, if you don't find someone who already has this knowledge, I'm volunteering for the position Smile

yeah but something tells me that the first week classes will be slightly shorter than the following weeks

Also, as it stands most of the classes have at least one of the 2 required instructors for it... so this is becoming a very real possibility Smile

I've been told I have an excellent reading voice. I'd be willing to be your "reader" if I can fit it into my schedule.

As I've said in previous times, I'd be will ing to teach something other than history. There are always new, current events, that people could be learning about as well! (Recent History, I mean)

Wow, that classes list is very interesting!! It would be awesome if I could attend all of them Very Happy
I used to teach something of general D'ni Culture but I don't think I'm enough knowledgeable for going to the the depth required for your classes, I'll just attend. Laughing

I just verified that my microphone works, so if you need an extra individual for D'ni linguistics, I'm available. I know a few others had already spoken up at last night's meeting. And to them, I'd be willing to even just help prepare lectures and not give them -- I've spent four years of my life studying Latin and Attic Greek philology and might be able to give a few pointers for teaching the translation class.
