I linked into the city to day and people were talking about a code that someone sent them (see the spoiler below) i can't make heads or tails of it thoguh.

Hm, interesting. My guess is that certain numbers represent letters, given how some of them always repeat. For example, 902 will constantly show up, but never 903 or 901.

The bit in the last line is interesting, as it alternates Letter-number, which breaks the earlier pattern.

I think the best bet would be to see which of the letters are most comon, and deduce from that.

Some ideas:

It may be ASCII code, which gives out a symbol for each number.
It may be decimal values of D'ni numbers, which could be associated with their similar letters, and those letters could mean something; or even further, those letters could be represented by particular keys on the keyboard, which would write a message.

Dose someone have a D'ni numbers convertor? Like, you enter 1815 and it gives [2] [22] [15] (calculated mentally, may be wrong Razz

).

Just an idea, for the 2nd paragraph of numbers. (Starting with 3 902), I'm thinking they may point to books and word numbers. (Book 3, word 902 in this case).

Just a guess. Maybe all these numbers are pointing at books throughout the cavern?

I don't buy that, Jamey, if only because there is an odd number of entries in that group (so can't be pairs) Confused

What most intrigues me is the alphanumeric block in the third group. If we can figure out why that's the way it is then I think that'll give us a big clue (unless the whole thing is hoax Wink

).

Do the coordinates still work? (orientation, height, distance from the Great Zero)

But wasn't height always negative since the Great Zero is located very high...?

The inclusion of a comma in one group and a period at the end of each group tends to imply sentences.

Yeah, but it's regular: letter-digit, letter-digit, letter-digit,...

If the rest are characters making sentences then that block must be something that can't be expressed as "normal" text - maybe it represents a number (a KI number?).

The D'ni number thing makes sense. It explains how it regularly reaches such high numbers, and such low numbers. Past that though, what're we going to do. Will [2] [22] [15] come out to "t-ch-eh"? Or does it come out to B-V-O?

Seeing as how neither of those make sense, I'm guessing the numbers don't come out into D'ni letters, or refer to their place in the Latin alphabet. I'm guessing every block is a letter, and grammar is untranslated.

EDIT: Another strike against it being D'ni. Periods are at the end of the sentence, not the front.

Hmmm

It can't be a simple substitution (a cryptogram) because at least 6 numbers occur by themselves, which only I and A do in english (there are exceptions, yes, but it's uncommon) . He could be using homophonic substitution, where a plaintext letter could be represented by more than one number, though.

EDIT: Ok, I didn't think that thru. It's not necessarily homophonic. All the numbers occur singly (Doh!) unless the ones that could be expanded into D'ni remain grouped into a single word. /EDIT

I do like the idea of expressing all the numbers in D'ni (base 25) so we are dealing with a 25 character set, like the alphabet. Well, close enough Smile

The I3 H2 L1 section reminds me of old-school roadmap divisions. Remember those? Smile
