I know that one of the major objections to Myst appearing on an Android phone was that since Android phones were incapable of utilizing the SD card memory for applications, there was fear that there would be insufficient resources for the program.

With the upcoming release of Froyo, support for application data on SD cards is coming. Knowing this, is the Myst team considering developing an Android version of the game?

We are considering the Android OS for Cyan Worlds products but we don't have any specific project plans yet. The whole 'smart' mobile platform is pretty exciting!

The Froyo is a pretty nice looking phone (what is all this obsession with desserts? - wait, don't answer that)
Personally, I think the Nvidia Tegra 2 looks pretty hot.

Thanks,

Chogon -

Nice to see you guys are working so hard on justifying my purchase of an Android! Wink

The iPhone was never in the picture, since it isn't supported by our cell carrier... plus, She Who Must Be Obeyed would never consider changing our cell service just so I can have something shiny, Myst or no Myst.

Ah well,

Mowog

My Android 2.1 phone is the Samsung Captivate, which I guess is a gaming powerhouse... now to find more games to play on it.

According to the video Froyo is really going to amp up the MFlops

OK...I know I'm the ultimate Android fan-boy...but I couldn't let this slip. Smile Froyo isn't a phone. It's a version of the OS. I've been using Froyo for months now and it's /very/ nice. And now...Gingerbread is around the corner!

Does it run just as fast as it can?

Just got Froyo (Android 2.2) on my Motorola Droid. The apps have to be designed for it, but the app data (some, all?) can reside on an SD card, instead of on the phone. It's nice.

I've got the original Motorola Droid, which only had 256MB of memory. It seemed like so much at first, but I've only got 90MB left, and this was after I checked all my apps and moved everything I could to the SD card! The Motorola Droid was the first -- subsequent releases of Android phones have more memory.

I'd love to have Myst on my Droid.

Just to throw it out there, but you could get an iPod Touch and play Myst for iPhone on that. Smile

Exactly, that's why I'd still recommend an iPhone over an iPod Touch. Wink

And why I'd recommend getting something running Android. For example: the Nexus One's an awesome phone. Unfortunately, it's not available anymore.

I'm just worried that, as OHB has already brought an Android to Myst, him having Myst on his Android would probably be the same thing as dividing by zero and or crossing the streams. Shocked

It's the beginning of the end. When machine becomes game and game becomes machine... Shortly thereafter the machines take over and we get to be slaves. On the up side... we'll have job security. Razz
