Post Posted: Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:05 pm — Post subject: Kirel Guild Fair - Future of the Guilds

Shorah and Good Day to all of you out there.

As Jishin posted previously in the D'ni University thread, over at the GoMa we came up with the idea of having people visit Kirel for a day and allow explorers to come, visit and see the Guilds in motion. The ability for new players and old ones who had yet to delve into the Guilds see what they have done, still do and hope to do in the future may help to ease the questions some have and perhaps create a greater unity in the Cavern.

It is from this that I ask every Guild, official and unofficial, every Club, every Fan Group and all those who wish to share their commonalities and differences to take part in a bi-monthly "Interest Weekend" in Kirel from now until the foreseeable future. Whether this turns out to be weekly, bi-monthly or even monthly has yet to be decided on (my personal opinion falls around bi-monthly or simply once a month, but aside from that), yet regardless of the regularity, it's been felt that it would be nice if there was a feeling that the Guilds were showing an interest not only in open progress but also in simply connecting with explorers and giving them the chance to speak and learn from eachother in a relaxed environment.

As a result of the Authentication Server failure this past weekend, we've opted to move the Guild Fair back to NEXT weekend (i.e. The weekend of April 3rd+4th).

The primary reasons for doing this are due to A) limited time and B) constrictions.

The idea of spanning the Guild Fair over a two-day period was to make it so anyone could come in at anytime, learn what they wanted at a casual pace, and leave when they feel content. When you have 48 hours, it's much easier to get a larger group into a small space such as Kirel with minimal problems.

The notion is that Guilds and Clubs will meet in Kirel at any point in the day, gather around certain locations and then speak with anyone who shows interest in their groups. Even if people simply want to show their presence, this is an idea that I think would be enjoyable not only for the Guilds, but in the future for groups or clubs that want to get their message out without having to awkwardly go from person to person, and know from the get-go who's interested in what they have to say.

Again, this is completely optional for any and all of the Guilds, but it's intended that the Guild of Maintainers will definitely have a presence in Kirel over the coming weekend. We hope to see you there, and hope that other Guilds and Clubs will agree to show themselves and share their messages with everyone who wants to learn and take a more active role in the Cavern if they so choose.

Thanks in advance, for your understanding and willingness to bring the messages of not only the Guilds but the future of Uru to the Explorers just now finding their bearings here in the Cavern. We hope that and we'll see you down there, and that you'll enjoy yourselves as we bring the Cavern together to show what we can truly do as a community.

~M. Wheeler, Guild of Maintainers

Thanks for putting this together and following through.

I was in Cavern last Sunday for several hours. Pinny and several others were there. We were able to answer some questions for several people that stopped by.

Most thought the Guild Day was still on. That suggests messages take some time to pass through the community. Big news flashes through the community like lightening lighting the place up. Other news seems to move more slowly.

The Guild of Messengers is working on scheduling their time for this weekend's re-attempt. We'll be there as much as we can.

As of right now, the fair has technically "started."

I'll update the first post of this as we get an idea of what groups are actually here, and who some of their respective speakers are. This will give people coming in a better idea of who to look for if they're a little confused.

In the meantime though, this is going to be very lax. Come on in and represent your Guild, club or group as you so please, and/or just mill around and see what other people are doing in-Cavern.

If anyone has any suggestions for the Fair or has any ideas concerning how it's operating, feel free to put them here. The goal is to let people walk away happy and feeling as if they've learned something new; any advice towards making that experience better is well appreciated.

See you all down under!

Very Happy I will definitely be popping in to join the Fair several times over the course of the weekend. I am just dying to talk to someone about the Guild of Writers. Hope to see you guys all down there!

I'm there representing the D'ni Linguistic Fellowship. To avoid confusion, I'm likely going to spend most of my time there with my DLF avatar (KI 263471).

I'm not going to be around much tomorrow - Easter dinner with Dad, at which point I'll be introducing him and his girlfriend to Uru Wink but I'll try to be on Sunday as much as possible.

I'm in Kirel for 2 hours now, and there's been a constant flow of visitors, feel welcome to drop in any time this weekend to represent your group/guild or to see what's it all about Very Happy

Thanks, everyone, who supported the venture yesterday.

Don't forget that the fair continues today. Just come along and say 'Hi' or 'Shorah'! And don't be shy about asking questions of the various groups and guilds.

By the way, if you were there yesterday or today and are not on the Registry in the first post, please PM me with the day you were there and your in-game Avvie.

Sorry I can't be there more today (family obligations and all that) but I'll try to jump on tonight.

I was a visitor to the event just last night and I had to say I was very impressed. There were a lot of people there who were both representing the guild and interested in the guild. I had a nice long talk with Ural from the guild of greeters there and he was both interested and passionate about what his guild represents and even furthered my want and desire to join that particular guild when they are accepting new members.

Also I was listening in on the talk of the guild of messengers and was impressed with their dedication and enthusiasm! Good job guys, it was a great experience and can't wait to see more!

A big thank you from the Guild of Messengers! Very Happy

And thank you to Marcus for organizing this event, I'm looking forward for the next one!

If I can make a couple of proposals:
We could make this a monthly event and in a certain day and hour of the event we could take back to life the "All Guilds Meeting"
I think this is the right time to take it back, MOULa is back and many Guilds and Groups are waking up again and we need coordination to work well together and make this new Uru a successful one.

I really enjoyed this, people really seemed to be having fun.

I'd also like to thank Leonardo for that information he sent to me.

Indeed, the Guild Fair was a smashing success.

I like that many of the guilds and groups had handouts available; it really helps highlight what each group is "there" for, and of what they're capable.

The Guild of Messengers had their Upcoming Events KImail, the Guild of Writers had several images from new Ages in progress, and I had handouts covering the D'ni number system and alphabet. People really seemed to respond well.

I look forward to the next Fair!

I guess this poses the question: Should we have the Guild Fair every month, and if so, should it be only once, twice or for either of these options, which weekends should we use?

I agree, this was an incredible success, and I'd enjoy doing it again. All that remains right now is a little bit of planning, as well as incorporating, as someone previously said, the Guild Meeting as a possibility.

What do you guys think we should do moving forward? (Looking for input here Very Happy )

I'd love to see something like this regularly. It would give us all a nice glimpse at what certain guilds have accomplished in the time that's passed.

And it's a reason to be in the cavern!
