After getting my hands on the source, I couldn't help but fix the Bevin naming for neighborhoods. So far, it seems to work pretty well. I guess the constant is used just for the hood creation process.

Thanks to JWPlatt for pointing me to the file I needed to modify :):

Now… How long before we can send this fix to Cyan and get it into MOULa?

A while back, Rand mentioned they were going to eventually fix it. Though he said they would probably go with something like "Hood". I'm not sure which I would prefer. "Hood" is nice because it is short, but "Neighborhood" is the original name from the Prologue and UU days.

Finally. Not that Cyan hasn't had the ability to modify this all along... As I understand it, the grey hats already supplied the code for the fix (or maybe that's for the Minkata sparkle, who knows/cares). Good to see the fans taking the initiative :D

They can do it in 10 minutes tops. They just need to change that line in the plNetCommon.h file and compile the client again.

I quite like "Neighborhood," and it fits on the Nexus for quite a lot of hoods. Well, whatever they choose to do, just don't call it Bevin anymore

Cyan's probably been sent that patch a dozen times.

'bevin' is a particular neighborhood; not another word for neighborhood.

i'd like to see 'hood rather than neighborhood since we've traditionally (since uu, at least) always used that term when referring to our neighborhood.

Yeah, that's why I feel this needs to be fixed at some point. People come into the game and think Bevin = Hood, which is as good as me saying I went to London New York :D

I think 'Neighborhood' is appropriate, even though most explorers refer to it as 'hood'. I think of it as a road sign- they all say 'San Francisco' but everyone refers to it as 'Frisco'.

Of course, the beauty of open source is you can have it display whatever you like... correct?

I think we SHOULD be able to name it hood, bevin, neighborhood, neighbourhood, etc.
(I think the first hood made should be Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood!)

I do prefer neighbourhood, though neighborhood is what it used to be. Anyway, great that there's a fix! :)

Makes you wonder why Cyan never changed it. If it was so easy to fix, they probably wanted it to be Bevin, although they have never been able to give a proper reason why Bevin would be better.

Let's find a new thing for vid to object to. We don't want him to get bored, do we? :P
