Post Posted: Fri Jul 15, 2011 11:47 pm — Post subject: Myst IV: Revelation Widescreen Patch/Fix

[Update] I decided to make a little installer for those who aren't very tech savvy. It's pre-set for a 1600 x 900 resolution so if you need a different resolution just follow the detailed instructions below.

Working Link
http://newgreeters.openuru.org/membership/resources/downloads/RevWide.msi
Broken Link
http://www.multiupload.com/U0CWUFQRV1

So, I was trying to run Myst IV in 1600 x 900 widescreen .The game only supports up to 1024 x 768 widescreen. After finding there is no really good fix I decided to make my own. For the fix to work you will need the following:

http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/6795/resolution-changer

Before we continue you will need to open Myst IV and set your resolution to 800 x 600 for everything to work properly.

After the resolution change proceed with the download. (Be sure the one you download is Resolution Changer Version 2.) After the download extract the folder. Next, open the Myst IV directory (mine is

Code:

C:\Program Files (x86)\UBISOFT\Myst IV - Revelation\bin
) and create a new text file. (Windows File and Folder Options must be set to show file extensions for the next parts.) Name this file "game.dsc.txt". Open the file and enter this info:

Code:

{graphic
full_screen ( false )
}

Save the file. Rename the file to "game.dsc". Next open your extracted folder from the Resolution Changer. You will see three files:

Code:

d3d9.dll
readme.txt
resolution.ini

Open resolution.ini and you will see this info:

Code:

[MAIN]
#Resolution
Width=1280
Height=1024

#Force windowed mode (may not work in all cases)
Windowed=0

#Enable this if the window appears clipped ( 0 or 1 )
ForceViewport=0

Enter your width and height as your monitor is set or you will get an error message. Next copy the edited resolution.ini and d3d9.dll to the directory. (Again, mine in this case was

Code:

C:\Program Files (x86)\UBISOFT\Myst IV - Revelation\bin
) Now just run Myst IV and it will be in an unstretched Widescreen resolution. It will be windowed but that's not a problem because the only distorted area is the main menu. (For me this is not a problem.) If you ever want to back up the changes just reverse the process. Enjoy!

P.S. - Thanks to this outdated article for helping to get me started.

[EDIT] Not sure if this will work on a Mac because this is a tutorial for PC. Anyone who can test and confirm let me know.

Due to Multiupload being taken down, the installer for the patch is now available on the New Greeters site.
